Euphone tours with Battles after Thanksgiving.

Hello Friday people!

It’s not just because it’s Friday that I’m rattling with joy. I’m very excited to tell you that EUPHONE will be embarking on a tour with Battles. Both bands are exciting musically – leaning towards the avant-garde while remaining to hold familiar pop structure – making them quite catchy. The future of music approaches...

Conceived as a solo project for drummer RYAN RAPSYS, EUPHONE is an experimental mix of progressive jazz and rock music set in an improvisational context. Employing a variety of notable musicians along the way, EUPHONE has issued four solid albums of material for Bubblecore, Hefty and Jade Tree. This time around he’s kickin’ it solo with an evolved & refined sound.

But now, direct from the desk of Ryan Rapsys: “I am playing solo! All songs from my forthcoming LP. My set-up consists of drums, organ and vocals (simultaneously). The music is straight-ahead rock & f’n roll a la Cheap Trick (whom I cover), Danzig (whom I love), & Courtney Love (who I’m sleeping with). The music can be cathartic, It can also be soft or even silent at times. Sometimes, I just don’t have much to say. One thing is for certain though, you will have my rhythmic melodies trapped inside your head for days.”

Euphone, Crush Kill Destroy, Icy Demons, Chin Up Chin Up

Top of the week to ya!
We have a ton of Chicago shows comin’ up – here’s the 411! You’ve probably already heard from me whispering these little tid bits in yr ear/yr inbox already...
Let me know if you need anything from list press to kits;
If you’re writing somethin’ snazzy, I’ll be so elated – sorry if this notice comes as a bit belated.

CHIN UP CHIN UP - SAT. 11/20/04 @ Empty Bottle w/ Lucero & Matt Pond PA & Old Canes
Chin Up Chin Up's disarmingly resonant debut album We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers is ready to carry you through autumn and beyond. It's an album that proves that sentimental pop songs don't have to be cloying or trite. Meticulously layered with solid drums, keyboards, and warm guitar, these ten songs will wrap themselves around your mind and stay there all day. Chin Up Chin Up makes music about hope, about persevering through tragedy, and the redemption of optimism. Listen to We Should Have Never Lived Like We Were Skyscrapers and you'll discover the beauty of old souls dancing like adolescents, their hearts bruised but beating stronger and louder each day.

CRUSH KILL DESTROY - TUE. 11/16/04 w/ Battles & Del Rey
Crush Kill Destroy specialize in the sort of intelligent soundscape post-something rock championed by bands like June of '44 and Shellac. CKD's plan is to let their cleanly strummed guitars soothe the listener, clearing the way for marvelously dissonant Mogwai-style crescendos. It's all about the interplay between the two guitarists, who build gorgeous arpeggios and thick chord stacks around each other. These are expertly wound around the rhythm section, whose solid playing brings focus and structure to the odd, almost freeform guitar explorations. As is the case with much of this kind of music, the vocals are used quite sparingly, when they appear at all. Even though this is far from being pop, the craft of the songs and the pace at which new ideas flow indicate a sensibility that could never have come from a strict regimen of Dianoga, Shellac, Unwound, and long jam sessions. There's a songwriter's sensibility that's very refreshing in this genre.

EUPHONE - WED. 11/24/04 w/ Pinebender & Che Arthur & William Elliot Whitmore
