GOBLIN COCK Video!

wanted to let you know San Diego's cave dwelling sludge metal demons GOBLIN COCK, have just announced they've finsihed the video for the song "Stumped" off their forthcoming debut album "Bagged and Boarded" out October 25th on Absolutely Kosher!

view the video here!
http://www.wormwoodfilms.com/movies/goblin_cock_2.mpg

Having been leader of such instrumental and groundbreaking bands as Pinback and Heavy Vegetable, singer / songwriter / experimentor extraordinaire, Rob Crow, sets his sights on making some of the heaviest doom-riddin sludge metal quite possibly since the days of Sabbath.

With influences stemming from every direction of the musical spectrum, Crow has performed on some of the most beautiful and boggling records to date, including projects like cult heroes Optiganally Yours and Thingy, the lush atmospheric sonic mastery of Physics, and the completely freakish Holy Smokes (also featuring Zach Hill). In his latest incarnation as GOBLIN COCK, Crow goes balls to the wall and turns the axe down low to prove its not just beauty and weird that he's able to project, but pure, unadulterated ROCK! cock rock? almost literally.

Some have surmised that Rob Crow has the equivalent of musical A.D.D., but it’s more a case of seeing the world through song and brimming to the gills with inspiration and originality. He is clearly one of the most distinct and innovative musicians of the last 20 years. Of course, nothing exists in a vacuum and at the heart of this long and twisting musical career is a metalhead. And that metalhead’s secret black heart of motherfucking hearts has been simmering in a vast cauldron filled with orc’s blood and Sabbath records, seasoned with a comic books obsession (the title refers to the storage of comics, a hallowed ritual in itself) and injected with a vulgar sense of humor juxtaposed over a love of simple things (such as Sesame Street’s elusive pachyderm, Snuffaluffagus).

From the caustic, bubbling froth emerges Goblin Cock, monstrous in its potency, grotesque, fully formed, vile and virile in its power. OK, I could write this press release with enough cock puns to choke a critic (see?) and enough hyperbole to make it any metal release, but it’s not. It’s better. It’s the best rock record in years. This is not a side project. This is not ironic. Yes, this is serious. Yes, this is fun. Yes, this record is so fucking great for so many reasons, chief among them the way it fucking rocks. Fucker.

* In addition to the standard CD release, the album will also be available on a limited edition picture disc 12” LP, now available for pre-order on the Absolutely Kosher site. Both the CD cover and the picture disc are adorned with an explicit painting by artist Mike Sutfin, a professional whose work can also be found on Magic The Gathering cards and on commercial Star Wars packaging. It is one of the greatest album covers of all time. Sadly, the sensitive morale fiber of this country necessitates us to cover the most explicit portion of the CD cover with a sticker on the outer wrapping.

Both Rob Crow and guitarist Brent Asbury (ex-Thingy, ex-Pinback) are expecting newborns in October, so Goblin Cock won’t be touring until after the New Year.

THE DEAD SCIENCE "Frost Giant" / US Tourdates w/ Xiu Xiu Announced!

Wanted to let you know Washington state's gloom rock trio, The Dead Science, will be touring the US in support of their upcoming full length entitled "Frost Giant" out October 25th on Absolutely Kosher!

“The Dead Science have an uncanny knack for making depressing music that moves you with its surging urgency to an effect that may not be happiness, but provides a kind of sinister framework where you can imagine all kinds of thrillingly macabre scenarios with a dream-like grandiosity.” Tinymixtapes.com

Listen to a track off "Frost Giant" here: http://www.absolutelykosher.com/musicfiles/DrrrtyMagneto.mp3

The Dead Science produce slow and building, beautifully dark music, with their own brand of building prog-jazz instrumentation. Featuring Sam Mickens on guitar and vocals, and brothers Jherek Bischoff on stand-up bass, and Korum Bischoff on drums, the band calls up many a guest musician to play instruments like horns, cellos and violins to create one of the most original sounds in music today.

Joining the ranks of other creatively dark musical outfits such as Xiu Xiu, Man Man, or Calla, The Dead Science manage to create a sound completely their own, adding more in the way of experimental jazz and cabaret then most, with significantly more passion.

The perfect soundtrack for a smoke-filled saloon before sunrise, “Frost Giant” is filled with gloom and doom most certain to bring to mind such giants as Radiohead and Jeff Buckley.

Rebecca Pronsky’s sweet blend of styles is both new and yet something familiar. Her dark and clever lyrics are carried by her jazz-trained voice over the deep grooves produced by her talented band. She boldly blurs genre lines while staying true to a solid and accessible songwriting style all her own. And, we at Solid PR are excited to showcase Ms. Pronsky’s talent!

“Pronsky's straightforward folk-pop songwriting

is lent authority by her big jazz trained voice."

 – Village Voice

"Check out singer/songwriter Rebecca Pronsky in from New York City.

BIOGRAPHY

When Rebecca Pronsky was just 8 years old she began singing professionally. At this tender age you could find her with a local rock performer in her hometown of Brooklyn, NY. This teacher showcased Pronsky’s singing talent at a weekly show at the Bitter End night-club in New York City.  The crowd loved Pronsky, and not surprisingly she immediately felt enamoured to performing. Fast forward past the wonder years and there she was - a full-fledged teen singer-songwriter. Pronsky had picked up the guitar and began to write her very own songs.

Pronsky moved up to Providence, Rhode Island for college where she attended Brown University. She studied ethnomusicology and jazz voice, all the while thinking, drinking, and dreaming.  She was a regular performer on campus and around Providence. Her best songs from that era can be heard on her debut solo album “Milestone.”

Rebecca Pronsky returned to New York City after graduation, where she found herself in a kind of post-grad limbo. With no clue what would become of her and months of miserably pretending to enjoy life in the working world of day jobs and fluorescent-lit offices, Pronsky began pursuing music whole-heartedly.  She put together a band that helped her to explore and expanded her music.  In the years since, she has toured the northeast and played venues as notable at The Living Room, Makor, and Southpaw (NYC) to the Middle East, Club Passim (Boston), Grape Street Pub and Steel City Coffeehouse (Philly) and Velvet Lounge and IOTA (DC), as  well as smaller cities in between and colleges too.  Rebecca Pronsky has become a unique talent in the New York City acoustic music circuit.

Pronsky’s sweet blend of styles is both new and yet something familiar. Her dark and clever lyrics are carried by her jazz-trained voice over the deep grooves produced by her talented band. She boldly blurs genre lines while staying true to a solid and accessible songwriting style all her own.

Rebecca is proud to announce the release of her new EP The Early Hours, which showcases her best new tunes with the full band behind her. The album is receiving airplay on local and college radio.

ICEBIRD to tour US' East Coast

I know I’ve announced it before… but, ICEBIRD. Yesss! We are so lucky to have picked up this band. They are sparkle like a diamond through the smog of their (and Céleste’s) hometown, Los Angeles.

After playing a year’s worth of shows and garnering a wide range of audience attention from Los Angeles to New York to Las Vegas, ICEBIRD harnessed their energetic sound into a potent full-length album reflecting their raw live performances. The resulting record, MAGNITUDE, is being released by FSR (Flying Squirrel Records).

In other news, the brothers Monahan, Barry & Mike, have planted giant sequoias in a Los Angeles park. The baby trees are doing well…

Let me know if you would like a Q&A with the band or need any thing from us!

You’re an animal,

BIOGRAPHY

In a town covered in smog and saturated with bands vying to be discovered, Icebird is a breath of fresh, unadulterated, intelligent, and highly charged air. Both in their name and in their DIY ethos, Icebird distinguish themselves from their surroundings, exhibiting a rabid enthusiasm for process and performance that is lost on so many of their industry-driven colleagues.

Accompanying their well of raw energy is genuine musical cohesion and an array of influences that range from the Wipers to AC/DC; from Slint to Mission of Burma. All of these elements align to deliver the always unique Icebird sound. Their debut album, MAGNITUDE, was released on July 19, 2005 by Flying Squirrel Records, and captures the energy and power of the band’s live performances in a stunning live studio recording.

Driven largely by Barry‚s guitar riffs and lyrical prowess, the band exhibits a synergy and power unusual in a relatively new band. This might stem from the band’s extensive history as brothers and as friends before forming the band, their ability to finish one another‚s sentences, and their knack for convincing one another that they are, indeed, as good as Led Zeppelin. Or it might stem from each members‚ prior musical dalliances (Barry played the bass for years, Mike drums and guitar, and Kate piano and guitar - none play their original instruments in the band).

In January of 2005, the band spent one month practicing and preparing to record their full length debut album. They enlisted Raymond Richards, a friend of Icebird and the singer of the band the Idaho Falls, to engineer the album in his Red Rockets Glare studio. Icebird entered Red Rockets Glare in early February 2005 and when they emerged after ten days of live track recording and mixing, they had MAGNITUDE -- a record that changes directions like the needle of a seismograph. For mastering, Icebird sent the album to John Golden, who is best know for his work with Sonic Youth and the entire Kill Rock Stars catalog.

Icebird’s MAGNITUDE is already gaining the attention of Los Angeles radio. The song “the clap the burn the end” has been played on Indie 103 and Kill Radio, while “Birthday Party” and “ABABA BABABA” have been played on No-Fi Radio and KXLU‚s Neuz Pollution, respectively. In September and October, MAGNITUDE will be promoted nationally on 300 College and Independant radio stations. To coincide with this airplay, Icebird is currenty planning a tour of the East Coast for early October.

ICEBIRD TRIVIA

• Played live, the average song increases in speed by 24%.

• Barry and Mike are from Long Island, New York. Kate is from Alabama.

• Barry graduated from Georgetown University, Kate from Princeton University and Mike from Suny New Paltz.

• Barry failed guitar class twice.

• The MAGNITUDE cover art, a photo of a seismograph taken by Barry at the Museum of Natural History in NYC, inadvertently captured the East Asia Tsunami on Dec 29th.

• Kate is the sister of French Kicks singer/guitarist Josh Wise.

ICEBIRD IS INFLUENCED BY: Wire, Wipers, Shellac, Fugazi, Mission of Burma, Fang, Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders, Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Dinosaur Jr, Slint, Pixies, Magazine, Jesus Lizard.

INDUCE "CYCLE" [WONDERSOUND] : OCT 18, 2005

BIOGRAPHY
Even while some of his own good friends are still trying to figure him out, and this combination of stories and characteristics does not in any way fully represent who he is, INDUCE just really wants to make music. He wants to be heard. He wants you to know who he is.
It was early on in high school when INDUCE decided to be an MC. And while he had his hands in other aspects of the culture even in grade school, it wasn¹t until high school that he also decided to be a breaker and later, a DJ. Soon, the short poems and creative writing he was formerly fond of were replaced with recited verses from the likes of Q-Tip, Pos, and Monche. Break-dancing took the backseat after Djing increasingly became what felt like to him as the most logical progression, only to lead to the need to actually make music. Enter the MPC. Previous aspirations Exit. Even this story isn¹t as it seems isn¹t as clear-cut as he would like it to be. He likes it that way though. He also likes the idea that everything is in the details. So what then, when details are left out? Where there is mystery, there is a will to uncover it.
Sometimes suffering from slight Multi Personality Disorder, INDUCE attributes that to the almost infinite amount of nouns that previously and currently influence his life. While his "musical upbringing" as a child was made up of 80's music and Top 40 radio, he later developed a need to hear, experience, and most of all, know new things. It may seem as if early-to-mid 90¹s Hip-Hop had a lot to do with this way of thinking. That is only partially true. INDUCE will never let go of the memory of the influence of one group in particular. A local, Miami-based forward thinking Hip-Hop group called The All, then made up of current members of Algorithm and Evolver. Previous notions of what Hip-Hop music can be Exit. These days, history is history and forward momentum is future, even if he must look back to keep it up. Public Enemy enables his activism. Coltrane makes him cry. Boards of Canada makes it possible to see particles of light. My Bloody Valentine is the end of it all.
Along with making music, INDUCE is co-founder of Counterflow Recordings, worked as Editor and writer for Tablist magazine, has written guest reviews in XLR8R, holds numerous DJ residencies in Miami, started his own Classic Black party, was featured in Adidas XLR8R¹s Bedroom Rockers book, and is a self proclaimed vinyl junky. No smoke, no drink, no drugs, no meat, just vinyl. Most recently has started his own WonderSound record label.
INDUCE has been featured on various Counterflow Recordings, Botanica Del Jibaro (Beta Bodega / Rice Beans) and Metatronix releases including: theVapors Project 12²s - Five Deez, ³Faceless² 12² produced ³Faceless² Remix Slug El-P, ³RPM² 12² b/w Induce Serum, ³Afterburner² Seven Star My Mother And Father Were Astronauts LP produced, ³Interlude for Jon,² ³Irate MC² Remix, and ³Gender Affection²), Induce f/ SKAM2 Dejah Retribution/Reciprocation Pt. 1, ³Untitled² (Original Induce Takeback 93 Remix)

HANNER's "No Guts No Gravy" (release date moved to Nov 15th)!

Hey ya - how are you? Me? Phew! I can't believe the Solid PR camp made it through September and CMJ pretty alright! We had such a great time. HANNER did an excellent job playing our kick-off party last Wednesday @ Scenic. (She shared her set with Unsound Records label mates, The Pages.) She was so endearing in her story-telling folk artist kind of way and was such a great performer, I can't wait til you see her too! She is also a visual artist who has contributed to The Pages' artwork as well as her own album's, you can find more of her work here - johannawright.com

Anyway, we want to know if you want to hear her CD to give you a little sample of the world of HANNER! Let me know if you can consider some coverage for this talented and charming girl. Oh and yes, Unsound Records has moved HANNER's release date to November 15th.

HANNER:

NO GUTS, NO GRAVY:

BIOG:
When Johanna Wright journeyed to New York from Oregon about seven years ago, she expected to be constantly spattered with paint and has dutifully fulfilled the prophecy. She spends her days making drawings, paintings, and covering large expanses with gesso. Shortly after arriving in New York, Johanna adopted a baritone ukulele and began digging out songs and stories from her heart and brain. She was happy to discover that she could shape a song much like her paintings, with a humorous illustrative quality and a dollop of matter-o-fact sorrow. She attributes the mysterious southern accent she has adopted while singing to countless hours spent listening to Janis Joplin and Judy Henske as a wee lass. HANNER's debut album "No Guts No Gravy", is due out in Fall 2005. It is sure to skin the pants off any lover of the happy and mysterious.

NEW TO THE SOLID PR ROSTER!

CHROMELODEON – Chromelodeon hail from Philadelphia and are trippy as shit. An all instrumental rock extravaganza not too far from what it might be like watching Pink Floyd on a spaceship, minus the vocals of course. Chromelodeon say they’re a video game inspired band, but all I see are 8 dudes that rock really freakin hard! Bands like Rush, Journey, Hella, Radiohead, and Floyd, I think, would be very impressed w/ Chromelodeon and the power that lurks inside them. An added bonus to the Chromelodeon experience is hands down their live show. A Wall of lights and images shoot around a dark stage. Strobe lights and smoke fill the air as their spooky and unrelenting rock is unleashed. To date Chromelodeon has toured the US twice and has shared the stage w/ the likes of Murder By Death, Pattern is Movement, The Cassettes, LickGoldenSky, Skeleton Key, Minibosses, The Bouncing Souls, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Need New Body… the list goes on. Avant, rock, punk, all of the above, this is Chromelodeon. Look out for Chromelodeon’s debut full length “Heart of Sawdust” out November 8th on Bloodlink Records

PAULSON I think we have it my friends. This record leaves me pretty much speechless. Once in a while a record comes your way that really moves you in ways you just can not explain. You don’ know why you can’t explain it but you know it just encompasses all that makes music important and a passion in the first place. Paulson’s new / upcoming record “All At Once” out November 8th on the OneDaySavior imprint, is one of these records. Paulson, without question, stands on their own 2 feet when it comes to originality, but I feel the need to point out some records “All At Once” reminds me of, that have all moved me quite a bit at one point or another. Jimmy Eat World “Clarity,” The Doves “Lost Souls,” Neutral Milk Hotel “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,” Elliot “U.S. Songs,” Red Sparowes “At The Soundless Dawn,” and even others… this record has some sort of old school flavor that reminds me of college, but at the same time is incredibly refreshing, dynamic, and groundbreaking in so many ways. It’s hard to say who might be a fan of this record because when I listen to “All At Once,” I FEEL music, I feel like I am a part of what is happening, what is coming out of these speakers. Maybe I’m being a little too dramatic, but honestly, after countless listens, I am just utterly moved by this record. Maybe I’m just stoned but I think “All At Once” will be one of those records that I end up reaching for years from now when I’m in the mood to hear an amazing record that FEELS so good. Oh and get this, they’re from muther-truckin Jersey. I love it.
Paulson is not only a band that makes incredible music, but also bust balls like very few others. To date, the band has toured the US four times, w/ the likes of Senses Fail, Fall Out Boy, Bear Vs. Shark, The Break, not to mention the Warped Tour and other festivals nationwide, and will be one of the featured bands on the upcoming “Taste of Chaos” DVD. Having never been in a proper studio, the band was thrilled to finally enter the legendary Camp Street facility in Cambridge, MA with producer Mike Poorman (Tsunami Bomb, Hot Rod Circuit). The result is a radical departure from their previous effort. Where “Variations” was disjointed and aggressive, their new album, entitled “All At Once,” is focused and subtle. Gone are the screamed vocals and power chords; instead the listener finds a wash of keyboards and computer sequences, tight, dancey drums and even a lap steel solo. Odd time signatures still abound, but compelling vocal harmonies and mature songwriting are the focus. The artwork, inspired by Japanese modern artist Takashi Murakami, is further evidence that this is a band who continues to stand apart from the pack. Visit Paulson here:

REBECCA PRONSKY. People, wish our new artist a happy birthday. Rebecca turned 25 on the 4th. What does she have to say about that? “So creepy to be a quarter century.” Well happy birthday my dear. 25 is a good year. Stay young! The cool thing of the month is that Ms. Pronsky has a bitchin’ new hair-do. No no, really here it is: All Rebecca Pronsky’s CD profits on CDBaby are going to the Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.“ http://www.cdbaby.com/pronsky2
"On 'The Early Hours,' New York-native Rebecca Pronsky offers six perfect songs that sound as natural and unforced as a spring breeze in late April... Rebecca’s voice is both dark and hopeful, and she has surrounded herself with a first-rate band to help drive them home... There isn’t a complicated thing on this entire record, and that is testament to how well the songs are written.” ~ Portsmouth Herald

A MILLION BILLION Just released “Today We Love You” and the “Filthy Schoolgirls” EP. The CD release party featured not a laptop, but a full band! What’s this?! Back to basics goes Ryan Smith… with surprises at every turn. Says Alternative Press, “Since IDM stands for "intelligent dance music", we thought listening to AMB would actually make us smarter. Instead, it made us want to tear off our clothes and jump into a large body of water.”

BORIS with MERZBOW – oh my… On their third collaborative release, Japanese noise heroes, BORIS and MERZBOW, team up to produce a record of sonic nightmares of doom-riddin drone. The single track on “Sun baked snow cave” is a build up of growing and terrifying ambience, like the sound of a volcano slowly waiting to blow its top.
After over a half an hour of Merzbow’s demonstration in downright evil, Nine Inch Nails style shoegaze, Boris enters the room to unleash what could easily be the soundtrack to a Darth Vader monologue as he warns the universe of its impending demise.
A piano ridden sonnet layered with glitches and bleeps takes the listener through a forest of sonic beauty around the 50 minute mark, and washes over them with a grace and elegance not so expected from these masters of noise and heavy.
Able to emit emotions in the most minimal of ways, “Sun baked snow cave” (out October 11th on Hydra Head) may be perfect for both Rob Zombie horror movies, and for a small baby’s gentle night sleep. MERZBOW just finished a nice little US jaunt but look out for BORIS tourdates this October!

THE DEAD SCIENCE - The Dead Science produce slow and building, beautifully dark music, with their own brand of prog-jazz instrumentation.
Catch the DEAD SCIENCE on tour later this Fall (w/ Xiu Xiu!) in support of their upcoming full length “Frost Giant,” out October 25th on Absolutely Kosher. Tourdates coming soon:

GOBLIN COCK Having been leader of such instrumental and groundbreaking bands as Pinback and Heavy Vegetable, singer / songwriter / experimentor extraordinaire, Rob Crow, sets his sights on making some of the heaviest doom-riddin sludge metal quite possibly since the days of Sabbath w/ his new project GOBLIN COCK and it’s debut record “Bagged and Boarded” (out October 25th on Absolutely Kosher).

ODIORNE – it’s true, it’s really really true! Tours starting in November and beyond! The album is steeped in late-Beatlesque sensibilities, backing a rock sound with elaborate instrumentation (horns & strings), all the while avoiding standard pop structures.
Says Mish Mash, “This is one to grow on, as it doesn't reach out and grab you immediately. There's a lot going on, with layers of sound unpeeling and unraveling with each successive listening. Chambers' vocal style is understated and mysterious, sort of drifting along with the music without hogging the spotlight. Great stuff, and sure to stay in the player for hours on end.” Ooh ooh and… Allison Augustyn of Pioneer Local raves, “Odiorne is a talented band that can only gather momentum with the release of this debut. With Jimy Chambers at the helm, Odiorne might get its just rewards.”

OLY So, I was staying up late into the wee hours of the morning (like tonight!) and to my elation I heard Oly’s electroni-pop hit “No Money Fun” playing on an advert for the Noggin channel’s “South of Nowhere” show. I had to shake my head into lucidity and then felt the immediate need to listen to the entire track. It is, after all, my favorite one. You can catch the advert here http://www.the-n.com/mplay/play.php?presentation_id=2878
Aside from that, Oly broke my heart… no no nothing serious – she’s just going going gone to Miami and then to France to record a new album! No to worry, she’ll be back (I hope!) and if not I’ll see her in December in Paris! No money fun will be had!

STARS LIKE FLEAS There is nothing fun or funny about Stars Like Fleas. Stars Like Fleas is sternly focuses on maximizing the net-net bottom line for no-nonsense value investors surfing the yield curve. Stars Like Fleas: investing in your children’s future.
Most of the members of Stars Like Fleas played a relatively unannounced party in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood last week under the name Mute Witnesses. TV On The Radio’s Kyp Malone fronted the band. The spontaneously materialized band played spontaneously invented music (100% down-home improvised porch-torch music)for a small, fortunate, momentarily unified neighborhood crowd under the stars. Toward the end of the set the Diner providing power pulled the plug on the band. Said band continued unplugged, banging on anything within reach while the crowd joined in. On the ground. In the rain. In the dark. It was rather beautiful. This is all true.

SYBRIS – Shoegaze rock phenom SYBRIS was Monday;s Spin.com band of the day! Here’s some of what they had to say: “There's no such thing as too much reverb for Chicago's Sybris. The nine tracks on the band's self-titled debut album (out now!) are practically drowning in it. Every component of their sound -- frontwoman Angela Mullenhour's soaring vocals, the massive drums, the buzzsaw guitars -- resonates like it's ten feet underwater. Notes ring out long after their initial attack, flooding the sonic space. But Sybris isn't one of those bands with more guitar pedals than bright ideas. Having a sound is easy; Sybris has songs too, and catchy, well-crafted ones at that. The low-key "Blame it on Baseball" is a bloody valentine to early-'90s alternative rock, and "Breath Like You're Dancing" sticks around just long enough to get stuck in your head before it explodes into cacophony. The echo isn't there to obscure any compositional deficiencies, just to facilitate the spacey vibe. "Good Internal Clock," the album's climax, begins in Sybris' native Chicago and winds up on Mars.” SYBRIS just got back from a huge US tour and will be announcing an East Coast tour shortly! For now, catch them @ this year’s CMJ marathon and at the Solid PR CMJ PARTY w/ Man Man and Oxford Collapse (Wednesday 9/14 @ Scenic – Noon – 5pm)

VOLTAGE totally rocked Maximum Ink, “Chicago alt-rock with a petulant, fried-out industrial/electronic flavor to it. 8 unnamed instrumental tracks make up this morphing moody slab of slaughtered sonic serenity.” Meanwhile Crashinin.com recommends Voltage if you like Mouse On Mars, Tortoise, or Sea and The Cake. I still say their label phrased it best by saying, “Their unique brand of circuit-tar instrumental rock will have you shaking your ass while simulatneously asking yourself, ‘What is my ass?’” Meanwhile, Erik and Todd have been busy booking a Fall/Winter tour, building robots, making shoes, and moving out of the beloved Camp Gay…more soon!
