THEE MORE SHALLOWS in NYC Tonight, More Dates w/ John Vanderslice!

Come see San Francisco's most talked about ensemble THEE MORE SHALLOWS Tonight @ The Mercury Lounge as part of their US tour in support of their latest full-length "More Deep Cuts" out now on Turn Records! Also look out for more US dates w/ 31 Knots and John Vanderslice!

"One of the most original and best releases on '05" TinyMixTapes.com

"A mature rendering of sensitive, guitar-based avant-rock, pitched somewhere between The Kingsbury Manx, Luna and Low, theirs is an understated but seductive debut... Engrossing"- Mojo

"More Deep Cuts" the second album by the San Francisco band Thee More Shallows, their first for Turn Records, arrives some time after their debut album "A History of Sport Fishing" received glowing reviews and likened them to a diverse host of extraordinary bands, including Yo La Tengo, Grandaddy, Sparklehorse and GSYBE!, yet lauding them for being far more than the sum of their influences.

"Any way you cut it, More Deep Cuts is a singular gem" - East Bay Express

After touring the US and the UK, songwriter Dee Kesler retreated into the studio to work on the follow up to their success. What was supposed to be mere weeks of recording, turned into months of fine tuning and tweaking. Those months turned into years of obsession over every aspect of what would be "More Deep Cuts". After almost three years of uncompromised, tireless work, and almost three years of Kesler's seclusion from the world, More Deep Cuts emerged showcasing a massive evolution in Thee More Shallows' sound and producing an album that's both beautiful and devastating.

"More Deep Cuts" is about standing in place while the world whirls around you. As toy pianos and French horns crash into strings and decay into orchestras warped and bent beyond recognition, the sensible, ultra-clear voice of Dee Kesler provides a calm eye to the storm. And it is precisely this juxtaposition of chaos and calm, abandon and resolve, which makes "More Deep Cuts" so compelling.

Sitting at the songwriting helm is Dee (David) Kesler, joined by Chavo Fraser and Jason Gonzales sharing drums, samples, keyboards, and bass, and Odessa Chen on guitar and vocals.

BORIS Begins West Coast Tour w/ Sunn O))) and Thrones Tonight!

This just in! Japan's heaviest hitting psych-metal-doom trio, BORIS, will begin the West Coast leg of their US tour w/ Stepehn O'Malley's Sunn O))) and Thrones, in support of their latest release, a collaborated effort w/ Japanese noise-god, Merzbow, entitled "Sun baked snow cave" out now on Hydra Head!

About boris with merzbow:

"This is your new mantra." - Splendidezine.com

On their third collaborative release, Japanese noise heroes, BORIS and MERZBOW, team up to produce a record of sonic nightmares of doom-riddin drone. The single track on “Sun baked snow cave” is a build up of growing and terrifying ambience, like the sound of a volcano slowly waiting to blow its top.

After over a half an hour of Merzbow’s demonstration in downright evil, Nine Inch Nails style shoegaze, Boris enters the room to unleash what could easily be the soundtrack to a Darth Vader monologue as he warns the universe of its impending demise.

A piano ridden sonnet layered with glitches and bleeps takes the listener through a forest of sonic beauty around the 50 minute mark, and washes over them with a grace and elegance not so expected from these masters of noise and heavy.

Able to emit emotions in the most minimal of ways, “Sun baked snow cave” may be both perfect for Rob Zombie horror movies, and for a small baby’s gentle night sleep.

Upcoming BORIS dates!

Thurs Oct 27, Seattle, WA - Nuemo's

NEED NEW BODY
“Where’s Black Ben?”
(5 Rue Christine)

SHORTIE BIO

Bam! Crash boom screeech! (Ting!) = Need New Body. Difficult to define and eccentric to experience. This band is a phenomenon for your senses. For the sake of your dancing shoes, for the love of explosive beats, and to remember why exactly is it you love music – Need New Body is an important outfit for this day and age of the musically redundant, mundane and regurgitated.

Dance M.F. Dance! Live is where it’s at! Need New Body is widely known for their stunning theatrical live show. They’ve been known for wearing elaborate costumes, using irregular instrumentation, and having an overall fiery and thoroughly entertaining performance. Hearing about it from your most descriptive friend, however explicit, will never suffice; Photographs alone cannot document what occurs during a live exhibition; Even a show videotaped would not bring you close enough to this experience. The only way to fully engulf yourself into the phenomenon is to be there yourself.

Bling! In this the last few months, NNB have beeen working on documenting their performances to compile into a live DVD, incorporating home recordings, and working on one-of-a-kind merchandise sold exclusively at their live shows. Recording all Fall & Winter 2004, to bring you their next record in the ’05. This Summer Need New Body, will bring it with their third full-length release on 5 RC (5 Rue Christine)! The party is just beginning…

MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA Announce Details on Debut Album!

NYC (by way of Washington DC) supertrio MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA have just announced the details on their forthcoming debut full length, to be released on New York based label Doubling Cube (Robbers on High Street, Broadway Project, I Am The World Trade Center) on February 21st, 2006, and titled "Fantastic Success!"

Listen to a track off "Fantastic Success"

http://www.measlesmumpsrubella.com/audio/Fantastic_Success.mp3

"Like alien laser wars being fought in a wind tunnel as an android DJ creates a united front of disco, dub and punk." - Alternative Press Magazine

"If the Talking Heads was dance-punk’s Nelson Mandela, Measles Mumps Rubella is poised to become its Muhammad Ali." - The Village Voice

Just off an East Coast mini-tour w/ VCR and Rah Bras, Measles Mumps Rubella began playing together in a Washington DC basement in late 2000. By February 2001 the quartet played their debut show, to a packed room at local underground art gallery with fellow DC bands, All Scars and ABCs.

The band played a series of shows in the following months, and by August, Ian Mackaye had invited them to work with him and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio. The session produced two songs, “Zusammen Mit Motown” and “Lighters Out,” which became the group’s debut record released as a 7-inch single on their own Malady’s label in February 2002. The self-titled record was received with enthusiasm as the initial pressing sold out within the first month of release.

After spending sometime playing locally and touring with bands such as Bratmobile, the Rah Bras and Trans Am, MMR expanded their sound into longer pieces and produced the three song “Fountain of Youth” 12-inch/CD single that was released on Troubleman Unlimited.

2004 proved to be a landmark year for Measles Mumps Rubella. They went on several tours, on their own and with Le Tigre. The group relocated to New York, and parted ways with their original vocalist. Looking to continue forward, MMR quickly joined up with solo artist and long time friend Chuck Bettis who before moving to New York had fronted many DC bands such as The Metamatics, All Scars and Trance and the Arcade. Bettis immediately clicked with the group going on penning new vocals and touring within weeks of joining. Bettis’s fresh vocal approach has expanded the group’s sound as well as infusing a new energy in to the bands live performances.

MMR’s debut album, “Fantastic Success” is slated for release in late February 2006 through Doubling Cube Records. Recorded and mixed by Jonathan Kreinik (Apes, Hot Snakes, Trans Am) at Trans Am’s National Recording Studios, “Fantastic Success” nails down MMR’s unique sound and features the first recordings with Chuck Bettis on vocals.

BIG BEAR tours Eastern US in support of debut on MONITOR RECORDS

MONDAY OCTOBER 24, 2005
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BIG BEAR ON EAST COAST TOUR TO SUPPORT SELF-TITLED DEBUT ON MONITOR RECORDS

Hailing from Boston, with two years under their belt, BIG BEAR aren't quite what you would expect given their unassuming appearance. Using a seldom tapped harmonic palette, BIG BEAR layers "twisting snake" guitars over a crest of low end bass and blast beats. Intense, screaming vocals float on top tambourine cracked shin guards.

BIG BEAR has no real solid reference point to consider. Sound like this, sound like that ...none of it matters to any of them. While presently building a reputation for explosive and exceptionally loud live performances, coupled with the intensity and technical proficiency they exhibit both on stage and recorded, BIG BEAR undoubtedly stands to sonically re-configure, convert, and astonish many audiences in the future.

NOVEMBER DATES

11.03 Rochester, NY @ Monty's Krown
11.04 Cleveland, OH @ Moe's
11.05 Lansing, MI @ Mac's
11.06 Oberlin, OH @ Oberlin
11.07 Chicago, IL @ Empty Bottle
11.08 Bloomington, IN @ Second Story
11.12 Greensboro, NC @ Werehouse
11.13 Chapel Hill, NC @ Wetlands
11.14 Washington, DC @ Warehouse Next Door
11.16 Baltimore, MD @ Ottobar

“Those who check out Boston quintet Big Bear for the first time may be treated to a what-the-fuck preshow sight: the slight, tomboyish vocalist Jordyn Bonds duct-taping what looks like a soccer shin pad to the right thigh of her jeans. What could that be for? In answering the question, Bonds grabs a tambourine the moment Big Bear erupts into action and mercilessly beats her leg with it, over and over, while roaring into the mike …  The group is not only heavy but preternaturally tight; as Bonds's four bandmates propel the cacophony through jarring fits and starts, moving like a convulsing snake, the tambourine asserts its own din in the interstices.”TIME OUT NEW YORK

“While unquestionably brutal enough to incite the gnarliest of mosh sessions, the debut slab from Boston quintet Big Bear is far more likely to enthrall bloodthirsty math-rock nerdarios than the regular floor-punching goon squad. All 12 (untitled) tracks are stuffed with razor-sharp and serpentine licks, fractured rhythms and Jordyn Bonds’ tortured shrieks. Big Bear bursts with a frenetic energy that shifts and detours over and over again, making each track an ever-evolving post-math flurry, but leaves few formal departures from song to song, blurring the distinctions between tracks. It’s the much-needed wake-up call that can slap silly any jackass who still sleeps with his copy of Spiderland.”CMJ NEW MUSIC MONTHLY

BIOGRAPHY

Big Bear is:

 David Altman: the bass guitar

 Jordyn Bonds: voice, tambourine

 John McWilliams: guitar

 Joel Roston: guitar, voice

 Jonathan Sparks: the drums

Boston quintet Big Bear are jigsaw alchemists reconstructing, recontextualizing and reinventing; making joyful noise out of ideas that sound familiar, but feel disorienting, uneasy, exciting and alive. Their self-titled Monitor Records debut combines the rhythms of math-indie, the atonal disjunct of 20th Century composition and the textures/timbres of highly combustible blurstrock: it's iconoclastic sunrise music that inspires jovial dance fits.

Big Bear subvert the ideas of traditional melody and harmony, using vocals as a rhythm instrument and epileptic dual-guitar labyrinths as a snaky logic puzzle. The melodic angles read like a conversation and the lyrics read like the musings of a cynical idealist attempting to re-configure the world with a mix of pessimism and affection.

Big Bear has played with Wolf Eyes, Coachwhips, Oxes, Gang Gang Dance, Japanther, Parts & Labor, Wives, Blood On The Wall, Dirty Projectors, Chinese Stars, and Kyp Malone—shows that assuredly end with a cheap, colorful tambourine left broken, frayed and defeated.

Solid PR comp/Derek Meier on CokeMachineGlow

http://www.cokemachineglow.com/reviews/various_solidpr2005.html

Various Artists
Solid PR Presents Vol. 1: A Benefit for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society
(On The Rise Records; 2005)
Rating: 59%
Combined Rating: N/A

Sometimes CMG gets press releases like this:

"Dear Chet Betz Arron cokemachineglwoc.com we have valuable resources available, please post this stream of the new indie rock phenom the Dirty Home Carers' 30-second toilet paper commercial and let us know if you would like a copy of a cd of snippets from their awesome new album to giveaway or review and please let us know if you have any coverage planned for these guys on tinymixtapes asap! We think your site is great! They are huge in (insert demographic) The UK."

Solid PR's Derek Meier does not operate this way. Derek is 100% caffeinated and may or may not have ADD, which qualities combine to at least give the appearance that he loves his job (which constitutes promoting bands on Ace-Fu, Alien8, Kanine…). Part of the love recently involved collaborating with his extensive clientele to compile Solid PR Presents Volume 1, a 33-track, Screamo-to-Backpack-Rap double-disc package chocked with eccentric weirdo bands of which other PR co's could (quite reasonably) be a little too terrified to promote.

The so what: songs were donated by bands like Man Man (scary), The Unicorns (eerie), Mixel Pixel (creepy), and Lewis and Clarke (friendly) to put together Solid PR Presents as a benefit disc for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society which, unlike many other charitable foundations, actually exists.

Do you like Man Man's apologetic love song "10 lb Moustache" with its Fiddler-in-the-mud arrangement and salty lyrics ("people say you're wild / you've been christened a feral child / you need pornography to help you sleep at night…")? Or do you prefer the slick, plaintive, Constantines-meets-Maroon 5 (that's right) proggish pop-rock of the Crystal Skulls' "No Room for Change?" Maybe you've been wondering about what our beloved Greenwald meant when he described Lewis and Clarke's "Dead and Gone" as a self-directed "vocal call-and-response," and a "solo duet" with "briskly strummed chords that are just a whole step away from Elliott Smith's 'Angeles'." Solid PR Presents flaunts these and other flashy pop aberrancies in loot-bag fashion, to varying success. While it may be tough to find a place in one's heart for the punk-wavey Mommy and Daddy, Subtitle's free-association on "Subtalk" serves as a great first-step to the sometimes-Islands collaborator's varied body of work (Subtitle has been linked to Project Blowed, Anticon, Shapeshifters, and now what's left of The Unicorns).

Full disclosure: the comp isn't always palatable to the indie rock trado's tastes (there's a not-insignificant amount of thrashy throat strainery, the most interesting of which is The Great Redneck Hope's "PSST! Hey, the Lord is Awesome, Pass it On"). But if you're looking for a cheaper way to sample some of the weirder aspects of today's alternative pop while adding to your tax write-off receipt collection, Solid PR Presents meets both ends. Plus I hear that once this thing sells out, Derek's next project is to get that fantastic Oxford Collapse record some decent Canadian distro, but that's my own charitable cause.

BIOGRAPHY

Princess is the latest incarnation in a series of projects created by Alexis Gideon and Michael O’Neill. They first played together in 2000 in Western Massachusetts, and established a deep connection. Soon after, they created various concept improv based recordings and concerts such as: Planet Springsteen and the Long Island Sound -a performance piece where aliens from the planet Springsteen attempt to transform all of America into New Jersey; and Bayside Beach -an ode to the TV show "Saved by the Bell". In 2001 they shifted to composed work and formed the Good Time Band Band, a musical project that fell somewhere between experiment and excrement.

In 2002 they composed and performed the music for the production "If I Should Die Before I Wake", a live acted, video, and music production conceived of and produced by Michael O'Neill. This served as Michael’s thesis at Hampshire College where he studied music and theatre with Kym Moore (LaMama

Experimental Theatre Club), and Lanny Harrison (Meredith Monk/The House).

In 2003 they composed, performed, and recorded the soundtrack to "f", a feature length video experimenting with elements of narrative and abstraction written and directed by Alexis Gideon. This served as Alexis‚ thesis at Wesleyan University where he studied music with Anthony Braxton and Neely Bruce.

In 2004, Alexis and Michael relocated to Chicago, where they formed Princess. So far they have performed in their new hometown, recorded an album, toured west coast, and are soon to tour east coast.

“A group that awkwardly straddles the fence between eclectic experimentalism and tounge-and-cheek electro hiphop. Their music leans toward a slightly more evolved musicality than what one might expect from their polyester facade.” -Zack Pennington, Portland Mercury

"Princess has a terrific sense of humor and is certainly innovative. Musically, though, this is so far left and underground that I’m the wrong person to ask." –Jeff Fenster, Senior VP of A&R, Arista Records.

Check out the review of "Perfect Pitch Black on SPIN.COM!
http://www.spin.com/reviews/online/2005/09/050923_cavein/

"Due Sept. 13, the 10-track set ratchets up the quantity of punishing, metal-inspired riffs on songs like "Trepanning," "Ataraxia" and "Drowned," coming off significantly more heavier than its 2003 predecessor, "Antenna." - Billboard

"Perfect Pitch Black," the Massachusetts band's new album, makes the negotiation between hard-core punk's scraping textures and straightforward, radio-friendly alternative rock seem easy." The NY Times

CAVE IN, Boston based gods of extreme and heavy rock, are back!

Together for almost ten years, and having released some of the most influential records the hardcore and metal scene has ever produced, the members of CAVE IN take their post-major label experiences and vent them in a way only they know how, to produce what is possibly their best album to date.

Heralded for years by fans and critics alike as one of the most groundbreaking, creative, and important bands to come out of the genre, “Perfect Pitch Black” is having its many long time supporters saying things like “They’re back!” and “Oh, hell yeah!”

With past releases such as “Until Your Heart Stops” and “Beyond Hypothermia,” CAVE IN made their mark as one of the heaviest and most extreme bands coming out of the Boston scene (along w/ label mates and friends, Converge and Isis) and were making waves worldwide. Soon after, with the release of “Jupiter,” CAVE IN proved they were more than just a band to mosh to, but indeed made some beautiful and incredibly inspiring music. Similarly, vocalist Stephen Brodsky’s vocal style extended from pure screams to wonderfully sung. On their major label release of “Antenna,” the band saw a different direction and with the pressure of a major label to produce the hits, lost some of what made them the band they came to be known and loved as…

As some more recent live shows began to pop up around the country at various festivals such as Louiseville’s Krazy Fest, and the band were heard playing more and more of their older and extremely popular material, rumors began to fly that the old and worshipped CAVE IN were making a return…

With the release of “Perfect Pitch Black” CAVE IN proves they are indeed back and have quite possibly released their greatest record to date. Sure to please the old fans and turn some new heads, the new material will be supported by a full US tour this October. “Perfect Pitch Black” is due out September 13th on their long time home base label of Hydra Head Records.

KISS ME DEADLY Announce US Tour!

Montreal based female fronted cutesy-creep-pop phenom, KISS ME DEADLY, have just announced a slew of US tourdates in support of their upcoming debut full length on the Alien 8 imprint, entitled "Misty Meddly" (October 25th)

Read a stellar review of "Misty Meddly" on Pitchfork! http://pitchforkmedia.com/record-reviews/k/kiss-me-deadly/misty-medley.shtml

"Extra sweet!" URB Magazine

"If much of the retro-scene of late has relied on sweat, darkness, and strobe lights, KMD brings the perfume, sun, and virgin daquiris, carving out their own pleasing niche." StylusMagazine.com

KISS ME DEADLY is the Montreal based quartet that has progressed from an early Dischord-influenced math rock sound, to an epic, deeply melodic, dancable style of music! Their sophomore effort, "Misty Medley" is brimming w/ intoxicating pop songs that blend the anthemic power of indie rock w/ dance music.

The group is made up of Emily Elizabeth on vocals and guitar, Adam Poulin on guitar and vocals, Mathieu du Montier on bass and vocals and Erik Petersen on drums. Musically they bring to mind a number of classic bands form the last three decades including Echo And The Bunnymen, The Sugarcubes and Sonic Youth, and the band claim such disparate influences as King Crimson, U2, and Daft Punk.

Just back from a US tour w/ UK sensations, BLOC PARTY, Kiss Me Deadly has also performed w/ the likes of Blonde Redhead, Isis, Pinback, Enon, the Ponys, Hot Hot Heat, and more, giving just a hint of their diverse and awesome style of rock!

va-va-va-VOLTAGE on tour!

Flameshovel Records graces us with another hot new band. They are called VOLTAGE. Everything about VOLTAGE is intriguing – binary watches to fanny packs, internetting to custom made sneakers. Until recently, they lived at an art space / venue / laboratory of ideas called Camp Gay, and its name has nothing to do with their sexual orientation… Their website makes you miss DOS. But it’s their unique brand of circuit-tar instrumental rock that will have you shaking your ass while simultaneously asking yourself, "What is my ass?"

The duo throw the first punch this fall with their debut, Building the Bass Castle, Vol. 1. Let me know if you want to hear the record and I will toss one your way!

Luv,

Celeste

---

A LITTLE ABOUT VOLTAGE

Ornamented and troubled, competent and moody, VOLTAGE balances on a sea of divergent priorities.  At once caught between the chaotic pull of the noise community and the human urge to rock the party, VOLTAGE has trouble being identified as a rock band, but nonetheless craves the structure and ability to create concrete and beautiful works that are not lost in showmanship and flash.

More influenced by Bach and Timbaland, but often compared to Hella and Don Caballero, and more likely to buy records by Tyondai Braxton or Terry Riley, VOLTAGE believes that a healthy dip in pretense is better than a G n’ R cover, at least 90% of the time.  Believing that the-emperor-must-always-have-his-clothes-on, VOLTAGE concerns themselves deeply with pushing and retooling the structure of their songs and their very instruments themselves on a regular basis.

Problematically referred to as a noise band for rockers or a Hella for the ladies, VOLTAGE has it in to prove that innovation, on a good day, can be accessible or even exciting.  That thoughtful (though not necessarily somber) composition is the key to working otherwise disparate elements of music into a cohesive whole. VOLTAGE strives to be dynamic, musical, weird, and buried. VOLTAGE loves and values emotion, technical competence, and feel.

HELLA Announces Dates w/ Dillinger Escape Plan, Les Claypool, More!

Sacramento spazz-jazz-freakout-rock duo, HELLA, have just announced full US tourdates w/ the one and only DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN to begin this November (as well as some upcoming East Coast dates w/ LES CLAYPOOL), in support of their upcoming release “Concentration Face” DVD “Homeboy” CD, out November 8th on 5RC!

"Hella are capable of riffological complexity of a most athletic cast... a masterpiece of frantic blargh." Spin Magazine

::listen!::

http://suicidesqueeze.net/mp3/hella_song_from%20uncle_ch.mp3

Hella are the one and only groundbreaking rock super-duo from Sacramento, California, also known as freaked & fabled guitarist Spencer Seim and celebrated & worshiped drummer Zach Hill (also seen in Team Sleep, Goon Moon, Holy Smokes, and more).

Finally both the die-hard and brandy new HELLA fans will be able to witness the carnage and mayhem that is the HELLA live show. If you’ve seen them before or have never seen them, “Concentration Face” compiles various HELLA sets, mostly from their most recent Japanese tour, and brings their maniacal beauty to your home television or computer!

With twisted editing tricks thrown sporadically about, the entertainment value of this DVD is unlike most live videos and is both exciting to watch and fun to rock out to, all in the privacy of your own home! Make sure to move those expensive breakables, for HELLA’s earthquake-like fury is all the more dangerous on the big screen!

"Hella back up their ambition with impressive amounts of ingenuity and elbow grease, creating a White Album for disgruntled Gen Xers still finding solace in shoeboxes full of NES cartridges." PitchforkMedia.com

The CDEP “Homeboy” offers up four new ass-thrashing tracks from the ever evolving face of HELLA.

TERA MELOS' S/T out on SPRINGMAN RECORDS + tour tour tour!

Today, I’m writing to tell you about TERA MELOS. Sacramento’s instrumental four-piece fuses elements of jazz and ambient techno with hardcore punk, creating a unique sound that has been described as a head on collision of the melody of Cap’N Jazz with the aggressiveness of Black Flag, combined with an extremely energetic and often times borderline dangerous live-show.

Just one look and you'll see why TERA MELOS leaves fans stunned and wondering how this band is able to play such complex melodies while hanging from the ceiling or cart-wheeling into the unsuspecting front row.
Let us know what you think of the newest artist on the Solid PR roster! Drop me a line if you’d like to request a press kit or see the band live – I’d be happy to get you to the music, just say the word!

Lookout weekend 'cos here I come,
Céleste

----------------------------------------------------

TERA MELOS is performing TODAY, October 7th at It's A Grind in Roseville, CA. Two-part set will host Movement I and Movement II, separated by a brief intermission and lots of surprises as well as a few Tera Melos firsts. This show is free. Also playing will be Brillaint Red, pals Giant Squid (newly signed to The End records), and Tera Melos’ boyfriends Maida (Fiddler Records).

Here are some highlights of TERA MELOS’ hi-jinx on tour:

  • In San Diego Jeff had his face ripped open by Nate's bass, which consequently broke after impact.

  • Not in-direct consequence, an unsuspecting kid had his arm cut open by Jeff in Odessa, Texas.

  • People in Santa Barbara were picking the band up and launching them across the room mid set. Says TERA MELOS, “It's nice to have the audience attacking us for once.”

  • Livermore, CA’s crowd had on-the-spot devised a system to dance to the odd time signatures and seemingly random changes during the songs. People were thrashed on and jeffed punched out a flourescent light with his bare hand. We suspect it was out of joy.

What will they do next?!

OCTOBER

7th - @ IT’s A Grind – CD RELEASE SHOW, Roseville CA

8th – Tower Records, Chico CA

NOVEMBER

3rd - The Underground, Roseville CA

4th - Junta, Sacramento CA

6th – Balazo Gallery, San Francisco CA

…MORE DATES COMING SOON…

MORE TERA MELOS INFO:

While TERA MELOS call Sacramento home, the young band has already run one van into the ground while playing 95% of their 100+ shows on the road. Constantly on tour, and into their 2nd van, the band truly feels at home on the road playing for fans.

Known for their on-stage energy, TERA MELOS violently thrashes around like a finely tuned Swiss watch barely avoiding dangerous collisions.  The passion for their music is most important, and sometimes in that fury, things get broken and people get…involved. Hundreds of dollars have been spent repairing broken equipment, and guitar-repair has recently been added to the band’s list of skills.  Audience members are generally safe, though Nick's guitar has cut open people's faces on two separate occasions -- with both victims returning to the shows, smiling from ear to ear, so that they could purchase CDs and T-shirts and pose for pictures showing off their fresh stitches.

Case in point, the band was just voted "Best Stage Presence" by Sacramento's Alive And Kicking (1/2005), which heaped on extra phrase saying "By far, this is fucking the most  insane band I have seen since The Yah Mohs at The Hindenburg.  You have to stand back or you will get hurt."

TERA MELOS takes great pride in taking care of their fans, they play lots of fun free shows and sell recycled thrift-store shirts with their logo’s hand-screened for under six dollars; anything to connect with the people who take their time to be a part of the experience.  This has cultivated a growing rabid fan-base in towns around the country. The mutual support and appreciation make up for the economics of touring, allowing the band to continue doing what they love.

TERA MELOS’ untitled full-length album will be released by Cupertino, CA’s Springman Records on October 4th, 2005, and will be followed in the spring with a feature length DVD chronicling the bands recent adventures across the country, as well as the bands past touring and shows with acts like The Locust, Planes Mistaken For Stars, These Arms Are Snakes, Big Business, Oxes, Desert City Soundtrack, Bear Vs. Shark, Bullet Train To Vegas, and more.

SYBRIS Announces More US Tourdates!

wanted to let you know Chicago's dark and sexy female fronted shoegaze-rock phenom know as Sybris, will be coming to your town in support of their s/t debut record out now on Flameshovel !

"Dynamic... thrashing... magnetic." Pitchfork / 8.0

"Like their musical ancestors My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins and Lush, Sybris is emotive and aggressive, catchy and dissonant, cacophonous and pure." -UR Chicago

Sometimes lady luck doesnt quite look like lady luck. On a typically dreary Chicago evening in April 2003, Shawn Podgurski (bass) and Phil Naumann (guitar) were hanging out at a neighborhood bar and mulling over the idea that their fledgling rock band was perhaps missing something when they met Angela Mullenhour (vocals, guitar). The three shared a few beers and as it turned out the fake-ID-wielding-then-19-year-old Mullenhour was a musician as well and looking for compatriots. It was determined that the three would jam together later that week with then-drummer Bill Bumgardner. The four were all mutually blown away by the music they made that night, which Mullenhour would later describe as a beautiful kind of sonic gluttony. When the night ended Podgurski and Naumann knew they had found the missing piece of the puzzle in Mullenhours impassioned voice. Bumgardner revealed that he actually knew that from the moment Mullenhour walked into the practice space: She had her shoes duct-taped together. I knew it would work out even before she sang a note. Sometimes lady luck

Soon after, the now quartet named themselves Sybris (an intentional misspelling of a hedonistic ancient Greek city) and began crafting a sound thats a fusion of ambient art rock, 80s heavy metal and, oddly enough, folk. Dual guitars interlock with a powerful bass backbone, all driven by swirling and lifting drums. To complete it, theres Mullenhours acrobatic voice that acts as the bands two-headed catalyst she has the ability to either ground their sonic chaos or run the whole thing right off the rails. At times, the kinetic Sybris sound invokes Slayer fronted by Edie Brickell (the tail end of Blame It On the Baseball) and at others it feels more like the lovechild of Belly and Swervedriver (Best Day In History In Ever). The band even manages to produce songs that could have wound up on the album of an imagined My Bloody Pixies supergroup (Neon and Breathe Like Youre Dancing).

Most importantly, the band looks to make music that is epic and beautiful, yet fun, an idea that really began to take hold when the group began to play live. Mullenhour recounts the moment at their first show when wed played about three songs and the room just got really quiet. People were paying attention during the quiet parts. I remember my shoe flew off during the show and I remember thinking, Yeah, this rocks. This is the most fun ever.' Its this fun first approach and Sybris unique blend of genres that soon had them sharing stages with everyone from And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and Har Mar Superstar to Stars and The Thrills. Despite having only been a band for a year, the young and determined Sybris embarked on a few tours, one of which led them to play 2005s South-by-Southwest festival in Austin, TX. Within the same month, the band was picked up by Chicago label, Flameshovel Records (also home to Chin Up Chin Up and Make Believe).

Original drummer Bumgardner gave way to Eric Mahle in February 2005 during the final stages of the recording of their self-titled debut full length. The album was engineered by Mike Lust (Sweep the Leg Johnny, Ten Grand, Atombombpocketknife) at his Phantom Manor Studios and then mixed by John Congleton (Explosions in the Sky, 90 Day Men, Chin Up Chin Up) at the famed Soma Studios, both in Chicago. The album serves almost as a retelling of the bands brief history, containing a survey of material written over the first two years of the Sybris life. Its an exquisitely crafted synopsis of the recent past and a heady nod to the future of this young band.

THEE MORE SHALLOWS U.S. Tour w/ FOG, Jim Yoshi, 31 Knots, and more!

wanted to let you know San Francisco's amazing ensemble, Thee More Shallows, will be kicking off their US tour this Wednesday in support of their latest release, "More Deep Cuts" out now on Turn Records!

"One of the most original and best releases on '05" TinyMixTapes.com

listen to a track off "More Deep Cuts" here!
http://turnrecords.com/audio/TMS_Freshman_Thesis.mp3

"Any way you cut it, More Deep Cuts is a singular gem" East Bay Express
