SKELETONS & THE GIRL FACED BOYS TO TOUR!

SKELETONS & THE GIRL-FACED BOYS embark on a US Tour!

Derek and I are stoked to announce that our newest clients are Skeletons & the Girl Faced Boys. Ever since we caught them at 2005's CMJ Music Marathon and soon after heard their album "Git" (which was released by Ghostly International/Shinkoyo), we've been enchanted! (And that's an understatement.)

BIOGRAPHY
As a co-founding member of Shinkoyo records, Matt Mehlan retains the label’s core ideals of collaboration, experimentation, and unpredictability with his Skeletons project. Beginning in Oberlin, Ohio as a solo act with help from an eclectic cast of collaborators (classically-trained trombonists, punk rock drummers, a junkyard boy's choir), Skeletons has now settled comfortably into its adult body, having established the full-time band The Girl-Faced Boys (Seve, Johnny, Jason, and Carson) and forming an alliance with Ghostly. In addition to appearances at the 2004 CMJ and 2005 SxSW festivals, the group has lent live support to TV On The Radio, The Unicorns, VHS Or Beta, Animal Collective, Holger Czukay (of Can), Jackie O' Motherfucker, and Twig Harper. A major US tour is planned for summer following the release of the LP “Git”.

HYDRA HEAD RECORDS - Unleashed in 2006

Breaking News.

HYDRA HEAD RECORDS announces a sampling of its upcoming news
and releases for the next few months. Prepare for the assault.

February 25th, 2006
OXBOW "Love That’s Last" CD / DVD
Oxbow is the San Francisco based mastermind who's history and influence extend back to 1990, and who's reach spans the world. Eccentric and amazing frontman Eugene Robinson leads his band through fits and tantrums to create dark, heavy, elaborate, and beautiful monstrosities that reach into your ribcage and rip out your heart, still beating, and very bloody.

"Love That's Last" is an album of genre defying at its finest. With songs ranging from BB King or Etta James saloon-jazz and blues, to post-hardcore of the most evil brand (think Hoover / Engine Kid), the songs travel through your being and fill it w/ a sonic orgasm, brought to you by the one and only Oxbow.

Also accompanying the album is a DVD documentary following Oxbow around the world, allowing unfamiliar and new fans the opportunity to truly understand the band. Interviews w/ confused and amazed Europeans, and mind-blowing live performances abound, Oxbow is really just prepping us for their upcoming full-length of brand new material due out circa Fall 2006 ;)

OXBOW Live:
3:30pm Thursday March 16th
VICE Magazine SXSW Showcase @ Victory Outside w/ Art Brut, Witch, Afrirampo, Zombi, and more.

EVERLOVELY LIGHTNINGHEART "Cusp"
Dust, leaves, blood, photo chemicals, rust, various metal objects, a tunnel, a barn, a monastery, a booby trap, various moldy basements, water, explosives, tarot cards, an iron bison, the Los Angeles basin, the Mojave desert, a cat, a deer, potassium cyanide, mass confusion, a friendship, and a piano on fire in the middle of the street.

This is the performance/installation/image and object making/music and mayhem collaborative known as Everlovely Lightningheart. The collaborative is concerned with noise sound music weapons, psychic phenomena, delicate papers, pins and needles, the thinnest of threads, the devils trumpet, and the narrowest of lines. Everlovely Lightningheart (sometimes known Faith in Vapors Thin as Paper, symbolized in some circles by the image of a three headed unicorn) is an entity capable of producing, perverting, destroying, distributing, stealing, and selling a vast and sprawling array of existing as well as currently unheard of forms of cultural products and concepts.

• Everlovely Lightningheat’s performaces range from serene to chaotic. Including anywhere from two to a dozen performers, each performance is a truely unique experience.

• The band has played shows with Isis, These Arms Are Snakes, Pelican, Bastard Noise,Red Sparowes, and many others.

• As well as playing the conventional club circuit, Everlovely Lightningheart has been included as part of several muesuem and art collective events.

• Everlovely Lightningheart documents every performance with audio, video, and photography, creating an extensive library of work.

Everlovely Lightningheart Live:
4pm March 16th 2006 - Austin, TX
VICE Magazine SXSW Party @ The Longbranch Inn w/ Islands, Fatal Flying Guilloteens, Rye Coalition, Quintron and more.

SCISSORFIGHT "Jaggernaut" (Tortuga)
oh yes, oh, oh, oh yes. fuck this, and fuck that, fuck everything, because this is Scissorfight.

Scissorfight hails from New Hampshire and over their history of balls out non-stop rock, has managed to release some of the greatest metal and rock records the world has seen, and "Jaggernaut" (a word that means all night party / partier) does not stop there. Comparing Scissorfight to other bands seems backwards but let's play the backwards game. References from Megadeth to Drive Like Jehu, Big Black to AC/DC, Scissorfight demonstrates its unrelenting ability to beat its audience into submission, and leave it begging for more.

Not only does Scissorfight wear the belt of rock champions, dudes are some smart mothers. Just read their lyrics, thanks to things like band-members enjoying family-life, or others the occcassional spliff, dudes lay it out like the blue-collar champions fighting for the good of everyday humanity. Have fun, be happy, don't be sucked into stupidity, and enjoy the awesomeness that is Scissorfight (*note, a beer in the process is ok).

SCISSORFIGHT Live:

Sat. March 25th CD Release Newmarket, NH @ The Stone Church

Fri March 31st CD Release Portland, ME @ Big Easy

JESU "Silver"
Justin Broadrick and Ted Parsons are back w/ the followup to last year's self-titled full-length, whose brooding, monster of a record, found itself in many a year end best-of list. Together, the two return to release the "Silver" EP, marking a new and incredible journey for the band. Adding more electronic trickery and ambience, atop a mountain of heavy, "Silver," is the sound of the oceans alive and clouds forming, volcanos erupting and bliss being achieved, the soundtrack for "everything," and "it." Jesu is a spiritual journey, prepare to be uplifted.

Tracklist for "Silver"
1. Silver
2. Star
3. Wolves
4. Dead Eyes

Release Date Madness w/ MAN MAN, MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA, and THE POST OFFICE GALS!

Solid PR is pleased to announce three amazing releases out today, February 21st, 2006:

Man Man "Six Demon Bag" (Ace Fu Records)
"Six Demon Bag" marks the second full-length release from Philadelphia's MAN MAN. Having emerged on the scene in 2004 w/ the release of their debut album "The Man In A Blue Turban w/ A Face," this collection of musicians (led by singer-pianist-percussionist Honus Honus) have been recording and performing some of the most heartfelt and honest music, (recorded w/ an array of interesting instruments) and a live-show that promises to only get crazier (very interesting surprises promised at the upcoming at the 2/24 Brooklyn record release show), for the past three years. "Six Demon Bag" not only picks up where Blue Turban leaves off, but extends upon the genious of the band's songwriting and ability to enter your soul. Comparisons to Waits, Patton, and Beefheart galore, critical acclaim from Spin Magazine to the New York Times, and US tours w/ Arcade Fire to the Fiery Furnaces, could mean it is truly time for MAN MAN to shine.

Measles Mumps Rubella "Fantastic Success" (Doubling Cube)
Measles Mumps Rubella are the story of gothic danse punks who left their DC home for the dark and dirty underbelly of Manhattan to invade it's underground parties and dance-halls. MMR amassed a cult following over the years sporatically releasing songs w/ labels like Kill Rock Stars and Troubleman, recording w/ punk rock icon Ian MacKaye at Inner Ear Studios, and touring the US w/ Bratmobile, Le Tigre, Rah Bras, and Lungfish. "Fantastic Success," recorded and mixed by Jonathan Kreinik (Apes, Hot Snakes, Trans Am) at Trans Am’s National Recording Studios, is the first release featuring new vocalist Chuck Bettis (formerly of Dischord Records band All Scars) and is one of the darkest and more innovative punk records in quite some time. Reminisicent of Bauhaus or Echo and the Bunnymen, combined w/ the dance-punk guitar and drum lines of the future (*note we do not mean crazy electronics, rather, at times, saxophones), Measles Mumps Rubella are quite possibly laying the groundwork for the future of punk rock music. Dirty and gritty, dark and powerful.

The Post Office Gals "Esbeohdes" (On The Rise)
The Post Office Gals, or TPOG, or POG, as they're sometimes referred to, are the psychadelic-grind-punk children of the corn from New Jersey w/ an appetite for the heavy and destructive, and also great depth and the vision to push themselves to the max of their musical abilities. Guitarist Daniel Schlett (19) uses a minimum of 12 pedals and his respect for Philip Glass to create sounds Melt Banana would be proud of, and keyboardist Jessica Del Rosario, who has been a classicaly trained piano player since the age of 6, bring the chaos to accompany the brutal vocal patterns of singer Roman Stefaniw and drummer Matt Millers ridiculous time signatures. Having toured and played w/ the likes of the Plot... Transistor Transistor, and Das Oath, incuding a massive US tour w/ The Great Redneck Hope, The Post Office Gals set their sites on the future as they release their first record, "Esbeohdes," to a US audience. see them on the road as they head South w/ nO things (ex-Liars) and Knife Skills!

SOCALLED to drop "The SoCalled Seder" / Tourdates w/ Matisyahu!

We at Solid PR are pleased to announce the newest member to the roster, representing a genre of music we far too rarely get to support, welcome Canada's hip-hop madman SOCALLED!

SOCALLED is the Canadian based hip-hop maestro who’s white-boy Jewish background is less a shtick than an amazing fact. Playing the role of producer and MC, SOCALLED has just created an album to join the ranks w/ some of today’s hip-hop greats.
“The SoCalled Seder,” set for a U.S. release just in time for Passover (release date March 27th), is 12 tracks of unparalleled originality that bumps like few others. Featuring guest appearances by the likes of Killah Priest and Matisyahu (also of the JDub family), “The SoCalled Seder” proves SOCALLED is a skilled musician in every sense of the word.

SOCALLED (aka Josh Dolgin) wants the world to know his music is serious, as are his ties to his culture. If his music doesn’t get you to get down, then he’s doing something wrong. “The SoCalled Seder” is an album for the clubs, for the home, for the family. For you. In fact, you could say it puts the Passover Seder into a hip hop context, the Seder that would happen if Williamsburg's hipsters and hasidim drank enough to sit down together at one table. "I put the Jew in jukeboxes, put the pro in prophylactics."
In support of his upcoming album, SOCALLED has worldwide tourdates set to pop with the like of Matisyahu and others. In addition, SOCALLED also has an upcoming full length set for a Fall release entitled “Ghettoblaster” which will feature guest appearances by C-Rayz Walz, Theodore Bikel and others.

Who is SoCalled?
Welcome to the eclectic world of master mixer, cratedigger, musical continent-spanner Socalled, AKA Josh Dolgin. Looking beyond the usual pantheon of samples for hip hop artists, So Called explores the shtetls of Eastern Europe and the Yiddish vaudeville stages of 2nd Avenue for inspiration.
Armed with his Akai MPC, heritage and love for genre-bending music, Socalled is a Yiddish rapping, accordion wielding, Klezmer-hip hop maestro. Heralded by Jewish, Klezmer, and hip hop musicians alike, including Killa Priest, Theodore Bikel, and Irving Fields, he builds Jewish music from the bottom-up.
Socalled is a musician, photographer, magician and writer based in Montreal. He was born Josh Dolgin in Ottawa, Ontario and raised just north, in Chelsea, Quebec. As a kid he was always in musicals and drew cartoons for the Ottawa Citizen. He hated soccer. He was bribed by his mother to continue piano lessons until high school, then he picked up the accordion. He wrote for the newspaper and played in any kind of band – salsa, gospel, rock, funk – then discovered MIDI and hip hop. He worked with rappers, he made mad beats, he got into studios. He graduated from McGill and made a 50 minute animated film for the Canada Council, meanwhile writing for Hour Magazine and performing.
“Hip hop is all about representing who you are, your crew. I’m this little white Jewish dude living in the country. It doesn’t make sense for me to rap about guns, cars, and hos. I’m not going to rap about hos. What should I make music about? I should try to represent who I am. When I began digging for samples, I found these old Jewish records, and they were a clue about this funky, old tradition that had been forgotten. Yiddish theater, Cantorial music...all kinds of weird sounds…and the records had the most amazing breaks! And I realized that I could make my hip hop - my music from them.” - Socalled

valentine's day card

SHAT on tour & album forthcoming!

Here's a Valentine's Day treat for all you boys and girls!

Yes folks, it's that time again... It's time for a new mind blowing Shat album to bum the world out. 69 hits songs in 69 hit minutes, brilliantly entitled "Cuntree", will be coming out on Buddyhead Records in the very near future. While Buddyhead tweaks the artwork a bit and get ready to send this bad boy off to the pressing plant we figured it'd be good to let you all chew on a couple of Jeff Wood's epic new songs... here are two favorites: "Dollar Store" (which is a topic John Lennon is pissed he didnt' write about first) & "Joanne, Joanne" (which Jeff says is about the girl who runs "Burning Angel"). You can download some sneak peeks (peaks!) on the Buddyhead Medication mp3 blog. You have to at least check out the track listing, for real. #2 is my fave.

MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA Announce U.S. Tourdates in Support of Debut Full-Length!

NYC epileptic-rock masters MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA will be touring to SXSW and back in support of their debut release entitled “Fantastic Success,” out February 21st on Doubling Cube!

“Like alien laser wars being fought in a wind tunnel as an android DJ creates a united front of disco, dub and punk.” - Alternative Press Magazine
“If the Talking Heads was dance-punk’s Nelson Mandela, Measles Mumps Rubella is
poised to become its Muhammad Ali.” - The Village Voice
“NYC-via-DC groove punks Measles Mumps Rubella will be three steps ahead of everyone else.” - CMJ

Measles Mumps Rubella are about to drop one of the sickest records of 2006. Just off tour w/ VCR and Rah Bras (as well as some local shows w/ Lungfish), this is dark and energetic yet doom-laden rock the way Echo and The Bunnymen and Bauhaus would have wanted it. Get freaked the fuck out and moved like never before.

The 411
NYC (by way of Washington DC) four piece, Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) began playing together in a Washington DC basement in late 2000. By February 2001 the quartet played their debut show, to a packed room at local underground art gallery with fellow DC bands, All Scars and ABCs.
The band played a series of shows in the following months, and by August, Ian Mackaye
had invited them to work with him and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio. The session
produced two songs, “Zusammen Mit Motown” and “Lighters Out,” which became the
group’s debut record released as a 7-inch single on their own Malady’s label in February 2002. The self-titled record was received with enthusiasm as the initial pressing sold out within the first month of release. After spending sometime playing locally and touring with bands such as Bratmobile, the Rah Bras and Trans Am, MMR expanded their sound into longer pieces and produced the three song “Fountain of Youth” 12-inch/CD single that was released on Troubleman Unlimited.
2004 proved to be a landmark year for MMR. They went on several tours, on their own
and with Le Tigre. The group relocated to New York, and parted ways with their original vocalist. Looking to continue forward, MMR quickly joined up with solo artist and long time friend Chuck Bettis who before moving to New York had fronted many DC bands such as The Metamatics, All Scars and Trance and the Arcade. Bettis immediately clicked with the group going on penning new vocals and touring within weeks of joining. Bettis’s fresh vocal approach has expanded the group’s sound as well as infusing a new energy in to the bands live performances.
MMR’s debut album, “Fantastic Success” was recorded and mixed by Jonathan Kreinik (Apes, Hot Snakes, Trans Am) at Trans Am’s National Recording Studios, “Fantastic Success” nails down MMR’s unique sound and features the first recordings with Chuck Bettis on vocals.

TIGERCITY Record Release Show Tonight @ Scenic!

NYC (by way of Northampton) electro-funk trio, TIGERCITY, will be playing Scenic TONIGHT February 8th (w/ Silent City and Kapow!), in support of their upcoming s/t debut out February 14th on Forge Records!

TIGERCITY are the electronic dance masterpiece whose original roots stem from the wooded lands of Northampton, MA, but now find them in the seedy financial mecca New York City.

The band’s electronic grooves and beats-a-plenty, find them creating songs of unmatched dance-ability. The songs are well structured and are both reminiscent of late 70’s funk and disco, combined w/ the early 2000’s emergence of electro-clash, though, the band’s punk-rock mentality clearly separates them from this genre. Imagine The Faint or Chromeo mixed w/ early Michael Jackson and James Brown.

On the band’s debut EP due out on Brooklyn’s Forge Records (see also Minibosses, Penny Winblood, Child Abuse, etc), will be appropriately released on Valentine’s Day of 2006. Appropriate because these songs are quite touching and graceful, adding a nice amount of beauty to the overall fun and groovy vibe of the album.

To date, the band has shared the stage w/ bands like MIA, Diplo, Mixel Pixel, The Unicorns, and more. Be sure to look out for upcoming dates and a US tour following the album’s release.

Imaad Wasif joins the Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Pitchfork Media were the first to break the fantastic news on our new client, Imaad Wasif. Please read below!

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Take on New Bandmate for Tour

Kati Llewellyn reports:
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Yeah! Pitchfork has learned that Karen O, Nick Zinner, and Brian Chase have added a member for their forthcoming tour dates. The guitarist’s name is Imaad Wasif, and if he sounds familiar, it's probably because you've noticed him in such bands as alaska!, the New Folk Implosion, or Lowercase.

Wasif flew into New York yesterday and has been practicing non-stop with the YYYs in preparation for their previously announced February mini-tour.

To refresh your memory:

02-23 Hoboken, NJ - Maxwell's
02-24 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
02-25 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
02-27 Chicago, IL - Logan Square Auditorium
03-01 San Francisco, CA - Bimbo's 365 Club
03-02 San Francisco, CA - Bimbo's 365 Club

If YYYs skipped over your city or you missed your chance to pick up tickets (all dates are sold out, sorry), don't fret-- the band has their bases covered. They plan to launch a full-blown US tour in April, after which they will head off for a European jaunt, including a day spent curating the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in May. Wasif will be with them all the way, and will possibly serve as an opening act for their next NEXT American tour in the fall.

Wait? Opening act? Yep. The well-rounded Wasif does the solo thing too. In fact, his self-titled debut drops April 11 on Kill Rock Stars. Here’s the tracklist:

01 Spark
02 Out in the Black
03 Whisper
04 Into the Static
05 Fade in Me
06 Isolation
07 Blade
08 Coil
09 Without
10 (Dandelion)
11 Tomorrow Is Ours

Finally, our good deed for the day is reminding you about the new YYYs record, Show Your Bones, which comes out March 28 (March 27 in the UK) on Dress Up/Interscope. Bones' first single, "Gold Lion", lands overseas on March 20 as both a CD and a 7".

ALL PARALLELS Announce U.S. Tourdates!

New Jersey rock masters, ALL PARALLELS, have just anounced their 2nd US tour in support of their debut full length "Formulate a Tragedy" out now on OTR!

"Something that Alex Lifeson of Rush might have cooked up with some lessons from James Hetfield of Metallica"
Ben Sisario, The NY Times

"A punchy blend of angular riffs, plowing rhythmic grooves and excitable vocals, the band successfully launch into foray after foray of energetic modern rock with a light hardcore slant; Keeping the listener thoroughly entertained from start to finish."
ThePRP.com

"Someone call major label A&R reps! All Parallels is bouncy, addictively melodic rock that you normally hear pounding on alternative and rock radio stations."

Lambgoat.com

ALL PARALLELS delivers a sound that is rough around the edges, raw around the bones, yet somehow shimmering all at once. They play a heavy rendition of rock 'n' roll that will appeal to mass audiences, yet it retains an unpolished quality contrary to most of today's radio-friendly rock. Their style simultaneously displays the arrogant bravado of Led Zeppelin, the bar room trashiness of GNR, and a vulnerable sincerity comparable to Kurt Cobain or Elliot Smith. The music is heavy, but not brutal, melodic, but not sweet; intelligent, but not artsy. With an outrageous live show that is truly an event not to be missed, showmanship is combined with raw punk rock energy, and the attack is relentless from the first song to the last chord .

After blowing away audiences and performing w/ the likes of the Basement Jaxx, The Unicorns, Seemless, An Albatross, BedLight for BlueEyes, Drowningman, Murphy's Law, and more, ALL PARALLELS are poised to ravage the country with their upcoming headlining tour.
