AN ALBATROSS Announce Release Date and Cover Art (Tour Forever!)

Straight back from their European tour w/ Aids WOLF, Cave In, Pelican, Earth and Sunn O))) (as well as a mind-blowing set at this year’s SXSW Festival), AN ALBATROSS set their sites on the U.S. as they preview their upcoming album “Blessphemy (of the Peace-Beast Feastgiver and the Bear-Warp Kumite)” out June 27th on Ace Fu Records (vinyl available through GSL):

Brothers and Sisters! Aural Emancipation by the sacred sonic offerings of the AN ALBATROSS aggregation is on its way! Their mission is to attune you to the Kinetic-Life and yield an experience gratifying to the soul and the body alike: a communal gathering of bodies in motion devoid of inhibiting, hyper-individualized frame of thought!

Preview "Blessphemy..."
NOTE: This stream ONLY works for PC's at the moment!
http://www.acefu.com/WMAP/preview.htm

AN ALBATROSS is a psychedelic sonic orgasm; a barrage of mechanical, jerky and discombobulated time signatures eclipsed by hectic Farfisa organ/synthesizer melodies. Not unlike sitting down with an average American family during primetime television, the music is unquestionably attention-span friendly for an ADD-diagnosed society: unbelievably short, complex, infectious bursts of polyrhythms and spirit.

With an unparalleled spirit stimulated by the current line-up and several recent releases in its pocket, the band set forth on an unbelievably rigorous tour schedule, crisscrossing the U.S. multiple times and making two transatlantic pilgrimages that amassed a staggering total of 600+ performances. The most noteworthy of these dates included a slot on the July ’04 French Eurockeennes Festival, a March ’05 BBC session - initiated by the late John Peel - and a support slot for the East Coast leg of the legendary Melt Banana’s 2005 spring tour.

The band’s performances have now acquired a quasi-legendary status, surpassing the traditional concert schema by facilitating a complete fusion of band and audience. Under the mythical banner of future-primitive/psychedelic entities like the Lazer Viking and The Electric Coyote, AN ALBATROSS’ Revolutionary Politics of Dance are executed nightly through their electrifying performances.

Tracklisting For Blessphemy...
01. In The Court Of The Bear King

Miami Vicing

I made it through my first Winter Music Conference. I went in expecting to cringe at every corner, especially since it was happening the same time Spring Break 2006 was in full effect, but grew to love it. (I only wish Oly was around!) It took me three days and four text messages to find the one classic rock station to broadcast over South Beach, and I was a happy camper. Jamie Lidell was fantastic at M3 and Induce was spinning all over the map! The guy must be the most popular kid in Miami - Brian from UrbanGroove pointed out that we couldn't go one block without having to stop so Induce could chat with his homies. Onitsuka Tiger's rooftop event at the Townhouse Hotel was so much fun, it served as a sun-tanning retreat from the boom boom room that was Miami Beach complete with water beds and bar, especially when the free sushi came about! Prefuse 73, Stephen from Warp Records, Tommie Sunshine, Induce, and Spencer Product were among the slew of DJs we had spinning our rooftop event. We also met the hardest working college rep there is out there, named Raquel - who happens to look a lot like Soliel Moon Frye (aka Punky Brewster). Our last night there, we got to stop into the cutest record shop in South Florida, Sweat Records and afterwards Brian from UrbanGroove insisted we go and do karaoke - let me know if you want to see videos of him rockin' out with his c*ck out. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, our new friends, UrbanGroove, Onitsuka Tiger, The Townhouse Hotel, Michelle & Merin & Christina for helping me out, Induce for taking us under his wing, and all our DJs. You are fabulous, the lot of you.

ps) I took this picture just minutes before hopping a jet back to Chicago. Farewell Miami!

We survived SXSW 2006

Well, SXSW was fun, wasn't it? Thursday was crazy for us - first the totally rad Iheartcomix party at the Beauty Bar. I think everyone and their mama was there at least once! That night was our Solid PR/Ace Fu showcase & that was nuts! The rest of the time was running around seeing Solids like Big Bear, Imaad Wasif, Oxbow, Goblin Cock, Skeletons & The Girl-Faced Boys, Oxford Collapse, and then some! These bands freakin' slayed. (This is a picture of Derek near-collapse on top of the Solid PR mobile at the Todd P party on Saturday!)

We wanted to thank all our bands and friends, new and old, for such a great time! Most of all - Andrew from DIW & Dana from Biz3 for bunking with us, Gus & Jodie @ Chord for fronting the bill, the UrbanGroove fellas, Heather & Asics, Jesse from SXSW, Franki-Travis-Jay from Iheartcomix, IRIS Distribution, Musicane.com, Miele Fresca, Fox Tax, and of course Rachel Leah Wolansky - photographer galore and our beloved brain!

Honestly, we are so happy to be a part of such a great art form - and being in Austin this week only (ahem) solidified our faith & love for music as a means of communication and expression. Okay, enough of the hippie love shit. But, you know what I mean... no?

Props out to Big Blackhawk, The Rub, & Eagles of Death Metal - we love all y'all!
Special thanks to Elana for holding down the Solid PR fort.

SKELETONS & THE GIRL FACED BOYS - tour winding down!

SKELETONS & THE GIRL-FACED BOYS embark on a US Tour!

With SXSW over and out, the fun hasn't stopped there - we caught as much of Skeletons & the Girl-Faced Boys as we could, and still can't get enough. Lucky for me and you Chicagoans, they're playing tonight at the EMPTY BOTTLE! Set time at 11p folks, see y'all there!

As a co-founding member of Shinkoyo records, Matt Mehlan retains the label’s core ideals of collaboration, experimentation, and unpredictability with his Skeletons project. Beginning in Oberlin, Ohio as a solo act with help from an eclectic cast of collaborators (classically-trained trombonists, punk rock drummers, a junkyard boy's choir), Skeletons has now settled comfortably into its adult body, having established the full-time band The Girl-Faced Boys (Seve, Johnny, Jason, and Carson) and forming an alliance with Ghostly.

TOURDATES

Skeletons & The Girl-Faced Boys – The “Kings of All Cities” Tour 2006

22 Mar - Chicago, IL @ Empty Bottle
23 Mar - Lansing, MI @ Mac's Bar
24 Mar - Dayton, OH @ Elbo's
25 Mar – Altoona, PA @ Lion’s Den

A NORTHERN CHORUS Tour and New Video!

Breaking News

Canada’s masters of the ethereal A NORTHERN CHORUS, will be touring the US in support of their latest album “Bitter Hands Resign” out now on Sonic Unyon!

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "WINTERIZE"
http://www.sonicunyon.com/anc/index2.html#Video

"Gorgeous, grandiose soundscapes that’ll take you to your safe place faster than a fistful of Valium." - ALTERNATIVE PRESS 4/5

“Resonating with Pink Floyd's cold and swirling qualities, EITS's delicate textural layers, Godspeed's epic thrust and Sigur Rós's inexorable freeze, A Northern Chorus has turned out the record that Death Cab for Cutie might make after taking an online classical composition course and a near-fatal overdose of tranquilizer cocktails.” - PITCHFORKMEDIA.COM

A Northern Chorus is the swirling and epic Ontario five-piece, whose take on modern-day classical pop has made its mark amongst some of the scene’s finest. Often being compared to Godspeed You Black Emperor, Explosions in The Sky, etc, A Northern Chorus sets itself apart with their beautiful vocal arrangements and more dynamic than most, building soundscapes.

IMAAD WASIF Announces More Dates w/ the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

IMAAD WASIF has announced more US dates w/ the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, including solo performances, in support of his upcoming, self-titled album out April 11th on Kill Rock Stars!

Imaad Wasif is the singer, songwriter and guitar player extraordinaire whose time spent in such bands as alaska! and The New Folk Implosion has garnered him a rabid fan base and polished his talent right in time for his first ever solo release, courtesy of the seminal Kill Rock Stars imprint.

Imaad’s heartfelt and honest approach to music brings to mind such groundbreaking and like-minded musicians as Jeff Buckley and Neil Young. Recorded and mixed in Nashville by Mark Nevers (Will Oldham, Tindersticks, Silver Jews, Lambchop), his solo debut is truly an inspirational record that will undoubtedly impress his core fans, as well as open new doors to first time listeners worldwide.

Stunning, a masterpiece, and historic are just some of the adjectives to describe Mr. Wasif’s latest addition to his evolving catalogue of albums.

---

What Imaad wants you to know:

This is meant for the late night vibe or the early morning fear but what do I know about setting the mood? I can be the most loveless bastard you’ve ever met or I can love you ‘til you can’t breathe, either way you choose, I will take it too far. So I give you my new solo record and every song on it is a hit. “Spark,” “Out in the Black,” “Whisper,” “Into the Static,” “Fade in Me,” “Isolation,” “Blade,” “Coil,” “Without,” “(Dandelion),” “Tomorrow Is Ours” — these are among my best and most recent compositions.

Some of the things that inspired me during the time of writing these songs were Buddy Holly demos that he recorded at home in NYC shortly before his death, early Joe Meek recording “I Hear A New World,” John Fahey's “The Yellow Princess,” Sylvia Plath's Ariel poems, Truman Capote’s first book “Other Voices, Other Rooms,” Swedish artist Hilma af Klint, and a collection of eastern classical instrumental records of past masters that I inherited from my father.

I want to save people with music. I feel that I was born to siphon away their poisons and negative energy so that they might be happier. This has mangled me at times but I have always found something beautiful in this mode of creation. It has given me my voice.

Yours truly,
Imaad Wasif
