OXBOW Record Release Show, May 20th @ Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco

After blowing away audiences at this years SXSW festival (performing w/ the likes of Witch, Rye Coalition, Art Brut, and more), OXBOW is back and ready to tear you a new one w/ the release of their "Love That's Last" full length and DVD

Oxbow is the San Francisco based mastermind whose history and influence extends back to 1990, and whose reach spans the world. Eccentric and amazing front-man Eugene Robinson leads his band through fits and tantrums to create dark, heavy, elaborate, and beautiful monstrosities that reach into your ribcage and rip out your heart, still beating, and very bloody.

"Love That's Last" is an album of genre defying at its finest. With songs ranging from BB King or Etta James saloon-jazz and blues, to post-hardcore of the most evil brand (think Hoover / Engine Kid), the songs travel through your being and fill it w/ a sonic orgasm, brought to you by the one and only Oxbow.

Also accompanying the album is a DVD documentary following Oxbow around the world, allowing unfamiliar and new fans the opportunity to truly understand the band. Interviews w/ confused and amazed Europeans, and mind-blowing live performances abound, Oxbow is really just prepping us for their upcoming full-length of brand new material due out circa Fall 2006.

Other Upcoming OXBOW Performances

AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED Release "PCP Torpedo/ANBRX" TODAY!

Breaking news from Solid PR and Hydra Head Records!

The masters of grind-metal, AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED, release "PCP Torpedo/ANBRX" this Tuesday, April 25...

AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED "PCP Torpedo/ANBRX"

The leaders of grind-metal madness are back to rip your face off!

Originally released in the final year of the 20th century in the unconventional six-inch vinyl format, “PCP Torpedo” is finally reissued on CD-in the equally
unconventional three-inch CD format. (Not only is it a truly “compact” disc; Agoraphobic Nosebleed apparently wanted to specifically torture Mac users.).
The hideously deformed and many-fanged suckling of guitarist/machinist Scott Hull (also of the equally unstoppable Pig Destroyer) and vocalist/programmer
J. Randall (formerly of ISIS), ANB specialize in stereophonic slaughter and extreme pharmacological distress, the combination of which is commonly referred to as “hyper-grind.”
Accelerating the BPMs well past human tolerance levels with a hallucinogenic freeassociative pathology bordering on the mentally ill, “PCP Torpedo” is equal parts total grind nightmare and industrial-strength psychosis, not to mention an unequivocal demonstration of ANB’s reckless & willful disregard for both the hearing threshold and basic human decency.
The cleverly titled companion remix CD, “ANBRX”, features hellish ANb distortions created by the likes of Merzbow, Justin Broadrick (Jesu, Godflesh), James Plotkin (Khanate, Phantomsmasher) and Vidnaobmana.
Together, “PCP Torpedo/ANBRX” will violate your already fragile psyche and probably bring the average glue-huffing fan-boy within inches of cutting an ear off-if they haven’t done so already.

SCISSORFIGHT tours!

Breaking news from Solid PR and Hydra Head Records!

SCISSORFIGHT announces US tourdates w/ Orange Goblin in support of their latest, "Jaggernaut" out April 11th!

SCISSORFIGHT Announces US Tourdates w/ Orange Goblin, in support of their new album "Jaggernaut!"

“Stick-fighting monkeys. Death in the wilderness. Fishing with hand grenades. Blizzards. Buzzards. Bastards. Such are a few of the many themes explored by outlaw rock avatars Scissorfight over the course of 12 years, four albums and three EPs.”Decibel Magazine

Oh yes! oh, oh, oh yes. fuck this, and fuck that, fuck everything, because this is Scissorfight!
Scissorfight hails from New Hampshire and over their history of balls out non-stop rock, has managed to release some of the greatest metal and rock records the world has seen, and "Jaggernaut" (a word that means all night party / partier) does not stop there. Comparing Scissorfight to other bands seems backwards but let's play the backwards game. References from Megadeth to Drive Like Jehu, Big Black to AC/DC, Scissorfight demonstrates its unrelenting ability to beat its audience into submission, and leave it begging for more.
Not only does Scissorfight wear the belt of rock champions, dudes are some smart mothers. Just read their lyrics, thanks to things like band-members enjoying family-life, or others the occcassional spliff, dudes lay it out like the blue-collar champions fighting for the good of everyday humanity. TODD got the fck cranked to eleven

TODD
“COMES TO YOUR HOUSE”
[SOUTHERN RECORDS]

RELEASE DATE: MAY 16, 2006

Giving you the heads up about the latest addition to our roster: Southern Records' very own TODD! TODD are back with their latest record and armed with louder guitars and bigger (yes bigger) knives. They've got the FCK cranked to 11 and it's time to sort out the mice from the masters. Pick a side, fool!
13 tracks, 35 minutes. Ultra-gnarly sophomore release from the unruly instigators of in the red insanity, a decidedly more freaked and noisy effort from the London crew. Heeeeeaaaaavvvvvvvyyy!
So skim through the info below, let me know if you're down to hear it, and just say the magic words and I'll get this off to you forreals. Luckily for those of us going down to Austin next week - we'll be able to catch them stateside: TODD are playing SXSW this year - check out the dates below!
NOTABLE PRESS FOR TODD’S “PURITY PLEDGE”
  • “Tad and Jesus Lizard go doom!” – Rock Sound
  • “Biblically speaking, this band are Samson – they’re pulling the house down to prove a valid music point.” – Q Magazine
  • “Wrap your listening gear around this for 40 minutes and you’ll be a bloodied wreck, but you’ll rarely have felt better.” –Drowned in Sound
  • “Listening to Purity Pledge feels like living with a violent alcoholic who also happens to be the best fuck of your life. As much as the sheer ugly, abject physicality of TODD’s grimy riff assault should be a terrifying thing, there’s a deep primal satisfaction at the heart of this gloriously wretched and transgressive stew. The finest dirty-ass gutter salvation you’re likely to find this side of a rehab clinic.” –Plan B
  • “The US underground’s response to the reign of President Ronnie Raygun was a spiteful, ugly, wonderful thing, rage bubbling up through the psychological terrorism of the Butthole Surfers, the rigor-mortis sludge of Melvins, the acrid sarcasm of Killdozer. A similarly tense age requires pungent protest art, so welcome TODD.” –Mojo
  • “…Craig Clouse’s TODD have grown into a pulverizing punk-metallic beast, lean and acrid like ‘In Utero’-era Nirvana, and dripping globe-flattening riffs QOTSA would give their drugs for.”–Kerrang!
  • “A frenzied yet fascinating exercise in turning seemingly disparate noise echoes and barrages of dischord into art.” –Metal Hammer

Voltage go west coastal! More tour dates added!

VOLTAGE SPRING 2006 WEST COAST TOUR

VOLTAGE are alive and well, resting comfortably in sweat hole Chicago after their first US tour in support of Building the Bass Castle, Vol. I. Fear not, though, they'll be back on the streets in 2006 looking to light up the pages of the Vice "DOs" [Vice, v.12, num.11, p.76, 1st photo] one more time with their astonishing fashion sense and their killer jams.
At once caught between the chaotic pull of the noise community and the human urge to rock the party, Voltage has trouble being identified as a rock band, but nonetheless craves the structure and ability to create concrete and beautiful works that are not lost in showmanship and flash.
Two-piece and instrumental, these Chicagoans use a range of instruments they've created to prove that innovation, on a good day, can be accessible or even exciting and that thoughtful (though not necessarily somber) composition is the key to working otherwise disparate elements of music into a cohesive whole.

FROM THE PRESS
"Considering how difficult it can be to distinguish a good sounding noise band, it's much easier to assess the coolness of their gear. While Voltage's technocratic wizardry puts them at the head of the class, their spazz-jazz is sure to win the hearts of high school AV club dorks and Don Caballero freaks alike." – CMJ New Music Monthly
"The album is an instrumental in the best way - it is completely open to the listener's interpretation." – Chord Magazine
"They come armed with equipment both modified and homemade, emerging with untitled jigsaw compositions that breathe and breed in a way so few wordless outfits do." - Doug Wallen, Philadelphia Weekly
"In basic terms, Voltage rock. It would take this entire column to describe the souped-up instrument modifications the guys have constructed, but needless to say, their devotion to avant-garde outsider rock runs deep." - Aquarian Arts Weekly

KAIJU BIG BATTEL w/ Mixel Pixel tonight @ Maxwells [Hoboken, NJ]

Fresh from their daily exploits on G4TVs Action Blast, Come party with the monsters of Kaiju Big Battel as they host musical guests Poison Ivy League and Mixel Pixel (and other surprises) in a night of music, video installations, and monster mayhem at Maxwells, Thursday April 20th, 8:30pm.

From the Kaiju Commissioner: There will be no full-scale battles at this event. The monsters of Kaiju Big Battel will be in attendance to dispel the notion that all they do is fight inside a steel cage. Instead, a variety of Kaiju monsters will host a night of musical acts, a video installation featuring the latest Kaiju Battels from G4TV’s Action Blast, and excerpts from the much anticipated forthcoming DVD Kaiju Big Battel: More Better Fighto.

About Kaiju Big Battel
Kaiju Big Battel is a modern conflict of epic proportions. Planet Earth is under threat: scattered throughout the galaxy is a monstrous mob of maniacal villains, menacing alien beasts, and giant, city-crushing monsters that are waging war against one another. Presiding over this mayhem is the Kaiju Commissioner, an enigmatic human-arbiter appointed by a clandestine cadre of world leaders to regulate Kaiju rage. If the Kaiju Commissioner doesn't do his job perfectly the entire world could get caught in the crossfire.
Currently, the Kaiju Universe maintains an active roster of approximately 40 monsters, including a blue alien-glutton named Sky Deviler, a factory-worker-turned-soup-can called Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle, a dirty hare-sage dubbed Dusto Bunny, Uchu Chu the Space Bug, and a despicable, square-headed mad scientist known as Dr. Cube. In addition to the Kaiju Commissioner, a few other privileged humans also get a piece of the action, including Referee Jingi, a mustachioed official who enforces fairness and civility in the ring, Anthony Salbino, an urban renewal expert who reconstructs crumbled cityscapes between Battels, and one tuxedo-wearing, mouth-running MC, Louden Noxious.

About Studio Kaiju
Studio Kaiju, an independent Boston-based performance and media group, is the creator of Kaiju Big Battel, the world's only live monster mayhem spectacle. Producer of consistently sold-out events, Studio Kaiju is best known for its live tournament-style performances, which are a character driven, tongue-in-cheek hybrid of American pro-wrestling, Japanese monster-movies, and lowbrow pop-culture. These multi-media events, complete with over-sized monster-movie props, a towering "Danger Cage", and miniature cityscape, can also be enjoyed from a safe distance thanks to "Kaiju Big Battel: A Practical Guide to Giant City-Crushing Monsters" from Hyperion Books and the Kaiju Big Battel DVD series from KOCH Vision.
To fund its live event series, monster creations and metropolitan destruction, Studio Kaiju produces and distributes its own line of merchandise including T-shirts, "real" monster meat, magnets and a whole catalogue of other cool but useless, limited-edition collectibles. The world of Kaiju Big Battel is also supported by Studio Kaiju's acclaimed web site, kaiju.com, which hosts Big Battel news, monster profiles, live event videos, arcade-style games, comics, and the most fun online mall ever.

MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA Announce US Tourdates!

NYC epileptic-rock masters MEASLES MUMPS RUBELLA have announced more US tour-dates (w/ the likes of Erase Errata, Parts & Labor, and more) in support of their debut full-length entitled “Fantastic Success” out NOW on Doubling Cube!

“Like alien laser wars being fought in a wind tunnel as an android DJ creates a united front of disco, dub and punk.” - Alternative Press Magazine

“If the Talking Heads was dance-punk’s Nelson Mandela, Measles Mumps Rubella is poised to become its Muhammad Ali.” - The Village Voice

“NYC-via-DC groove punks Measles Mumps Rubella will be three steps ahead of everyone else.” - CMJ

NYC (by way of Washington DC) four piece, Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) began playing together in a Washington DC basement in late 2000. By February 2001 the quartet played their debut show, to a packed room at local underground art gallery with fellow DC bands, All Scars and ABCs.

The band played a series of shows in the following months, and by August, Ian Mackaye had invited them to work with him and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio. The session produced two songs, “Zusammen Mit Motown” and “Lighters Out,” which became the group’s debut record released as a 7-inch single on their own Malady’s label in February 2002. The self-titled record was received with enthusiasm as the initial pressing sold out within the first month of release. After spending sometime playing locally and touring with bands such as Bratmobile, the Rah Bras and Trans Am, MMR expanded their sound into longer pieces and produced the three song “Fountain of Youth” 12-inch/CD single that was released on Troubleman Unlimited.

2004 proved to be a landmark year for MMR. They went on several tours, on their own and with Le Tigre. The group relocated to New York, and parted ways with their original vocalist. Looking to continue forward, MMR quickly joined up with solo artist and long time friend Chuck Bettis who before moving to New York had fronted many DC bands such as The Metamatics, All Scars and Trance and the Arcade. Bettis immediately clicked with the group going on penning new vocals and touring within weeks of joining. Bettis’s fresh vocal approach has expanded the group’s sound as well as infusing a new energy in to the bands live performances.

MMR’s debut album, “Fantastic Success” is was recorded and mixed by Jonathan Kreinik (Apes, Hot Snakes, Trans Am) at Trans Am’s National Recording Studios, “Fantastic Success” nails down MMR’s unique sound and features the first recordings with Chuck Bettis on vocals.

RIYL: !!!, Erase Errata, Liars, Liquid Liquid, Out Hud, Tussle, dance-punk

Big Bear announce East Coast tour dates

THE LATEST
*Big Bear have been nominated for some things in the Boston Phoenix's Best Music Poll!
*This follows their nomination for a Plug Award earlier in the year!
*Vinyl LP of their S/T album is out now on Cardboard Records!

PRESS QUOTES
"Big Bear finished off the night with an unrelenting avalanche of metallic art-punk. The five-piece's close-knit compositions pummeled and exploded in a fashion not unlike the late, great Unwound. ..Regardless, they played a damn fine show..." - Delusions of Adequacy

"If you’re looking for a new and obscure band to impress all your friends with, look no further than Boston’s Big Bear. Many Boston locals, however, may already be familiar with Big Bear’s fast, hard, and abrasive brand of rock’n’roll. Thanks to their high-energy live shows they have cemented their reputation as a must see act among the show-going public." - WERS.org (88.9 Emerson College)

"No wave with a prog twist. A lot like U.S. Maple working its way through King Crimson. Loads stranger and cooler than it sounds, too. Predictable rock and roll sucks. Big Bear is anything but." - Aiding & Abetting

"Actually, it’s quite fitting that Big Bear can’t be handily tagged and sorted; they seem to defy all of that. But seeing their live show, as frightening and as alienating as it gets, it’s as easy as it is uncomfortable to feel like you belong there." -Boston's Weekly Dig

TOURDATES

Out Now - JESU * IMAAD WASIF * SCISSORFIGHT!

We are extremely happy to announce three amazing releases, out today, April 11th, 2006 , by singer-songwriter extraordinaire (and current 4th member of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) Imaad Wasif, electronic sonic masters of the heavy, Jesu, and New England’s metal-rock heroes, Scissorfight!

JESU “Silver” (Hydra Head)

Justin Broadrick is back as JESU with his latest release, the “Silver” EP. Epic and monumental, Jesu’s follow-up to 2005’s critically acclaimed self-titled album finds Broadrick taking his brand of rib-rattling sonic nightmares to a whole new level. Complete w/ heavy synth, and beats that would make Four Tet blush, “Silver” proves the Jesu sound is only growing into a new, more monstrous, incarnation.

Just back from his European tour w/ FINAL, Broadrick hopes to see a trip to the States later this year.

Imaad’s heartfelt and honest approach to music brings to mind such groundbreaking and like-minded musicians as Jeff Buckley and Neil Young. Recorded and mixed in Nashville by Mark Nevers (Will Oldham, Tindersticks, Silver Jews, Lambchop), his solo debut is truly an inspirational record that will undoubtedly impress his core fans, as well as open new doors to first time listeners worldwide.

Album Biography

Music is a reflection of people’s lives – and the deep emotions of joy and despair that run through Aereogramme’s music illustrate the levels of intensity that these four Scotsmen experience in their existence.

Creating the ultimate passages of dark and light, quiet and light and sense of escapism, Aereogramme’s voyage encompasses punishing metal with moments of angelic beauty – ensuring that the Scottish quartet aren’t limited by genre defining boundaries and possess the ability to do exactly what they choose.

It’s no wonder modern day rock luminaries such as Isis, Thursday, Flaming Lips, Idlewild and Stephen Malkmus all love Aereogramme. Charlie Busted is a fan (seen gracing pop magazines adorned in his ‘Gramme t shirt), and let us not forget of course, legendary music maestro John Peel.

Formed in Glasgow during the late 90s, Craig B and Campbell McNeil roped in guitarist Iain Cook, and one-time jazz percussionist Martin Scott to play drums – a man who even quit his university education in order to concentrate on the behemoth that has become Aereogramme.

After initial singles on the band’s own label, two full length albums were to follow – both on Chemikal Underground (run by Scottish indie types Delgados) and licensed in North America to NYC's Matador Records. A Story In White saw listeners being delighted and confused by its schizophrenic myriad of quiet melodies and noisy outbursts. Sleep And Release was more direct and intense than its predecessor and it encapsulated a cinematic dynamic – created by utilising Iain’s previous work within the world of movie and TV soundtracks.

Both albums received ROCK SOUND MAGAZINE’s accolade of Album of the Month – an achievement no other band has ever accomplished – while A Story In White was featured in KERRANG!'s top albums of the year poll.

Excessive touring has ensured Aereogramme have built up an ever growing amount of fans throughout the world. Along the way – the quartet have spent their hours on the road engaged in playing computer games, watching DVDs (the usual on the road antics) but also creating music and utilising the long American road trips to their greatest effect. The results of which can been heard on 2003’s Liver & Lungs EP which featured a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller,' recorded in hotel rooms and the band’s tour van, mid-tour in America!

In 2004 Aereogramme began a new chapter in their musical career inking a deal with UK indie label Undergroove. Moving from a relatively indie orientated label to a more rock label has enhanced Aereogramme’s creative flow.

With artwork created by Aaron Turner (Isis/Hydra Head Industries), Seclusion continues to push back Aereogramme’s intense and passionate take on what music can truly be all about.
