The time is upon us. Just back from select nationwide dates landing them on the Pitchfork and Village Voice's Siren Festivals, as well as bi-coastal tourdates w/ Fiery Furnaces, MAN MAN (the reigning kings of what can only be called the epitome of heartfelt and honest music) have returned with another full US tour to support their critically acclaimed “Six Demon Bag.”

WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY - Photos from Spiegeltent Shows, Upcoming Tour w/ The Bouncing Souls!

Gotham City's punk-rock-cabaret-anarchist-carnival-troupe, better known as the WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY, have posted photos from their two performances @ New York City's Spiegeltent!

click HERE and HERE for full streams!

"Showtune-esque vocals, plenty of horns, and hooks that are impossible *not* to sing along to." - Alternative Press

"A raucous, nine-person cabaret act that introduced a welcome touch of anarchy to the cozy Caucus Patio" - Entertainment Weekly

“If you're looking for something different, important and fun (all at the same time), then I can think of no CD that fits the bill as well as Red-Eyed Soul.” – Punknews.org

"The word "unique" doesn't even describe half of the qualities that make the WORLD INFERNO / FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY a compelling recorded and live act. This compact of friends and roaring musicians is "disorderly conduct" in motion, enacted with a fervor that cannot be washed out." - Pastepunk.com

Punk rock? Swing? Cabaret? Whatever you choose to call them, the
collective known as World/Inferno Friendship Society has been an East Coast
staple for the past decade. Originally known for bringing their brand of
circus inspired anarchist-swing-punk to rooftops, basements, halls, churches
and anywhere their fire-breathing mayhem was accepted, the band created a
cult-following (especially in the New York City metropolitan area) that is
so magical, their live appearances are the most intense and eagerly
anticipated events of the weekend.

With a cast of characters so awe-inspiring, not only can’t the audience keep
itself from dancing uncontrollably, it also won’t keep its eyes off the
beauty, originality, and diversity that exists within the band itself.
Their live shows and music creates a feeling of unity and importance that is
incredibly necessary for every punk rock and music fan who are fortunate
enough to know of their existence.

Honest, stimulating, and incredibly gifted as musicians, World/Inferno
continue to craft some of the most energetic music around. Red-Eyed Soul (recorded by master-mind Don Fury) is a fifteen track powerhouse of driving and touching music, that proves the band not only stand atop most everything being produced today, they show a maturing that provides an album of unparalleled complexity and talent that will be sure to make new fans for the punk rock scene and (way) beyond.

The World/Inferno Friendship Society

Jack Terricloth - Vocals
Yula Beeri - Bass/Background Vocals
Lucky Strano - Guitar
Semra Ercin - Percussion/Background Vocals
Franz Nicolay - Keyboards/Accordion
Maura Corrigan - Alto Saxophone
Peter Hess - Tenor Saxophone
Ken Thomson - Baritone Saxophone
Ben Kotch - Drums

NYC's disturbingly cult-like, circus-related, Halloween-tent-revival orchestra The World/Inferno Friendship Society perform red-eyed soul show tunes for the swarming punk rock masses. The World/Inferno Friendship Society is not a rock band with a horn section; it's a fully-integrated orchestra of young men and women writing for you songs of the wine, freedoms and foibles which make life more than waking up and going to work every day. Nine pieces - 2 drummers 4 horns 2 guitars way too many teeth a piano and an accordion. Sign the fuck up!

Fate, my friends, loves the Fearless. And We, in turn, love You. Don't turn away from love, friends--don't be chicken. THE WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY is all the proof you need. With songs so sweet and a quicksilver beat, a lean 9-piece orchestra of girls and boys plays the cabaret-soul-punkety soundtrack to your romances and disasters. The vaudeville circus you always wished your life could be can be--just come and see!

*See World/Inferno live this Fall on the upcoming Gold Tour (appearing w/ New York punk rock heroes, The Bouncing Souls)

**If you’re in New York, you can catch the band September 17th and 24th @ The World Famous traveling circus venue The Spiegeltent currently erected at The South Street Seaport performing songs from their new 12 song songspiel "Peter Lorre's Twentieth Century!"

About Kaiju Big Battel

Kaiju Big Battel is a modern conflict of epic proportions. Planet Earth is under threat: scattered throughout the galaxy is a monstrous mob of maniacal villains, menacing alien beasts, and giant, city-crushing monsters that are waging war against one another. Presiding over this mayhem is the Kaiju Commissioner, an enigmatic human-arbiter appointed by a clandestine cadre of world leaders to regulate Kaiju rage. If the Kaiju Commissioner doesn’t do his job perfectly the entire world could get caught in the crossfire.

Currently, the Kaiju Universe maintains an active roster of approximately 50 monsters, including a factory-worker-turned-soup-can called Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle, a dirty hare-sage dubbed Dusto Bunny, a loser sea beast known as Call-Me-Kevin, and a despicable, square-headed mad scientist known as Dr. Cube. In addition to the Kaiju Commissioner, a few privileged humans also get a piece of the action, including Referee Jingi, a mustachioed official who enforces fairness and civility in the ring, Davio Salbino, an urban renewal expert who reconstructs crumbled cityscapes between Battels, and one tuxedo-wearing, mouth-running MC, Louden Noxious.

“Big Battels have become the hipsters ways to delight in the orchestrated mayhem of the WWE.”
-Newsweek

“An elaborate and athletic celebration of silliness…Part WWE SmackDown, part Saturday Night Live sketch.”
-Spin

“One of the weirdest things you’ll ever pay to see…”
-MTV News

“The thinking man’s answer to pro-wrestling.”
-Playboy Magazine

“Hey, any event that features a robotic box beating the shit out of a muscled can of chicken noodle soup is OK in our book.”
-Stuff Magazine

“Not to be missed.”
-The Village Voice

"A fascination with the wackier elements of junk culture, monster movie flicks, and pro-wrestling...a bizarre auxiliary cast...high energy hilarity."
-The Boston Globe

Studio Kaiju, an independent Boston-based performance and media group, is the creator of Kaiju Big Battel, the world's only live monster mayhem spectacle. Producer of consistently sold-out events, Studio Kaiju is best known for its live tournament-style performances, which are a character driven, tongue-in-cheek hybrid of American pro-wrestling, Japanese monster-movies, and lowbrow pop-culture. These multi-media events, complete with video installations, monster-movie props, and crushable miniature cityscape, can also be enjoyed from a safe distance thanks to "Kaiju Big Battel: A Practical Guide to Giant City-Crushing Monsters" from Hyperion Books and the Kaiju Big Battel DVD series from Koch Vision. You can also tune into Action Blast on G4 TV every morning from 8-9AM to get your Kaiju fix.

To fund its live event series, monster creations and metropolitan destruction, Studio Kaiju produces and distributes its own line of merchandise including T-shirts, "real" monster meat, magnets and a whole catalogue of other cool but useless, limited-edition designer collectibles. The world of Kaiju Big Battel is also supported by the fun-fun website, kaiju.com, which hosts Big Battel news, monster profiles, live event videos, arcade-style games, comics, and the most commercial online mall ever.

BOTCH and DEL REY Release New Records Today!

Breaking News!

Announcing two amazing new albums out TODAY courtesy of Solid PR and friends!

BOTCH "Unifying Themes Redux" (Hydra Head)

“{Botch's} We Are the Romans lives on as one of the most influential ‘hardcore’ records of the last decade, its jagged grace and terminal discord revered by the likes of future noise-mongers Norma Jean, the Used and Every Time I Die—which is ironic when one considers that the album essentially called bullshit on the prevailing hardcore aesthetics of its time.” – Decibel Magazine

“Inspiring, original and loved, Botch has left this world for the next, leaving
behind what we all hope to leave when we pass into that dark night: a mark on
the world, a legacy and warm memories to comfort those who survive us.” – Stylusmagazine.com

The first in a series of four new Botch titles set for release on Hydra Head in the next year, this reissue of the band’s long-out of print collection of early seven-inch material, compilation cuts and other rarities provides an incisive look at the germination of Seattle’s legendary ass-kickers. Originally released by Excursion Records in 2002, Unifying Themes Redux features sixteen ferocious tracks that only Botch could deliver—complete with weird samples, postmodern anxiety, and unstoppable riffs. All paths lead to Rome

Although Botch’s two full lengths and final EP features their most progressive work, Unifying Themes Redux summarizes the creative path that led them to such stellar heights. It’s a goldmine of Botch material, with compilation appearances, out-of-print EPs, unreleased tracks, and other collector gems. The John Birch Conspiracy 7” alone warrants the purchase—few acts could do justice to the theme from Conan the Barbarian.

Botch is now widely regarded as having redefined hardcore in the mid to late 1990s. Few bands took as many chances, and everyone form Norma Jean to Every Time I Die owes them due respect.

If hardcore giants of the time relied on static song structures and bloated
breakdowns, Botch embraced off-kilter rhythms, mathy riffage, effects-laden tones and lyrical defiance. Embracing progress defines their oeuvre.

These days, the former Botch players forge ahead in These Arms Are Snakes,
Minus the Bear, and Roy. True to form, not one of them is treading old ground.

Tracklist:
1. God vs. Science
2. Third Part in a Tragedy
3. Inch by Inch
4. O Fortuna
5. Closure
6. Contraction
7. Ebb
8. Stupid Me
9. In Spite of This
10. End of Discussion
11. Wounded
12. Liquored Up and Laid
13. Leavers Take on Genesis
14. Rock Lobster
15. Frequenting Mass Transit
16. Sudam

DEL REY “A Pyramid for The Living” (My Pal God)

"Layered, complex, swirling, and full of instruments that give off that Middle Eastern (or South Asia) vibe (they use a freaking sitar), DEL REY's post-rock/instrumental/psychedelic/whatever-else-you-may-call-it music most definitely comes to life during those late-night studying sessions." - Pastepunk.com

"Not only another entry in a subgenre gaining incredible clout, but a fine effort at that." - Metalreview.com

In ancient times, pyramids were built as monolithic monuments to dead heroes, as places of sacrifice, or as tombs. A Pyramid for the Living, the third album from the instrumental rock quartet Del Rey, is indeed a colossal monument, but it isn't dedicated to the fallen. This record is an offering to the six senses - what it sounds like to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into existence.

Crafted in painstaking detail over a period of almost two years, this is an album that at times seemed stubbornly determined to stay in the womb. The band cocooned themselves in the studio during its creation, shunning the light of day, hammering with the intensity and precision of a goldbeater, until at long last it was ready to emerge.

Del Rey itself was born in 1997 in the attic of a three-flat in Chicago's Ukrainian Village. Drawing on diverse backgrounds of Oberlin art-rock, Peoria punk, Scottish pipe drumming, and backwoods-Maine hallucinogenica (a highly combustible mixture of narcotics and electronics), musicians Damien Burke, Chris Cowgill, Eben English, and Michael Johnson forged a swirling din of hypnotic rhythms, heroic riffs, and snaking, angular melodies.

In '99, the band released a four-song EP, dlry, on their own Dirigible Recordings imprint, which displayed a raw talent in search of a distinct identity. A debut LP, Speak It Not Aloud (My Pal God, 2001), found Del Rey molding a vocabulary of sonic lyricism and rhythmic textuality into concise, coherent compositions. On the subsequent Darkness & Distance LP (My Pal God, 2003), this lexicon coalesced into densely plotted tales of dynamic tension & release, where breakbeat armadas battled with ethereal volume swells, and shimmering keyboards mingled juices with crushing walls of guitar.

Now Del Rey returns with Pyramid, featuring their most epic and aggressive storytelling to date. A cosmic opus that reveals a stronger, wiser group maneuvering at will through its own unique soundscape, expanded to include touches of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and Afro-Cuban influences. Building on a strong foundation of post-rock and electronic roots, their tonal palette has grown to include such instruments as sitar, prepared piano, acoustic guitar, a host of exotic percussion elements (including some of their own design), and -- for the first time -- the human voice. Added to their already impressive arsenal of furious double-drumming, stinging guitar work, and mesmerizing electronics, these ingredients are deftly woven into songs that take on a life of their own. This is scimitar, black-obelisk, lashed-to-the-mast odyssey-rock.

Del Rey continues to perform in Chicago and across the nation, and will be touring this fall in support of the release. Live, the music is infused with a feverish urgency, each song played like it could be their last. The signature of the group's shows is the symbiotic intricacy of their twin-drumkit attack, which, with its relentless ferocity, never fails to leave mouths agape.

The Cassettes, The PoPo; New releases 11/14; Upcoming shows!

This Monday, it is SOLID's great pleasure to announce that November 14th marks the release date of Buddyhead’s fall releases! Woo! Ya!
Though this might be your first introdution to The Cassettes' "'Neath The Pale Moon" and The PoPo's self-titled, but don't make the mistake of lumping them together. These two records are as differnt as night and day, apples and oranges, or apples and day. In regular Buddyhead form, they offer you the unexpected. Brand new releases from genre-spanning, dynamic bands. Where one can have an affinity to The PoPo's brand of socailly conscious skronky hip-hop, one can also thirst for The Cassettes' sweet folkish/rockish stomp. Go ahead and brave the information below, but don't discount hearing it for yourself.

THE CASSETTES
'NEATH THE PALE MOON
STREET DATE: NOV 14 2006

The Cassettes are Washington D.C.’s premier "vaudeville steam-punk" band. This "Musical Explorers Society" is fronted by Mr. Shelby Cinca, formerly the voice and guitar behind such notable D.C. groups as Frodus and Decahedron. He has also been the man responsible for recording various instantly classic D.C. indie albums such as Dead Meadow's first two full lengths. But don't be fooled into thinking there is any sort of punk/hardcore/post-punk tomfoolery happening here. The sound of The Cassettes strolls lavishly down the "Rocky Raccoon"/"Honey Pie" path that some could describe as synth-infused country stomp folk. Joining Shelby in his vision of pushing musical boundaries and expectations is Stephen Guidry on squeezebox and moog, Saadat Awan on drums and tablas, and an extensive cast of banjo, theremin, and saw players.

Cinca's long experience as a musician as well as his extensive time behind the recording console enabled the band to utilize the intimacy of home-recordings for songs such as "Sway Along." However, for the bigger sounds of songs such as "Lady Faire" and "Burgalar in the Bungalow," they turned to other producers and a variety of environments, including Silver Sonya's Chad Clark (Beauty Pill, The Dismemberment Plan's "Emergency and I" and "Change") and T.J. Lipple (Aloha). In particular, the band turned to their quasi-guru Jonathan Kreinik (boomboxmagnetica.com), whose deft hand can be felt on such recordings as Frodus' "Conglomerate International," and Trans Am's "Futureworld." Kreinik holed up for over a month in New York City, attempting to (among other things) encapsulate in sound the mind of Arthur Harrison, the band's erstwhile thereminist and occasional vocalist.
But enough with these details… "What of the album itself?" you surely ask. No album can be adequately summed up in few words on a one-sheet, of course, but The Cassettes have provided us with an album that could provide enough copy for an entire pamphlet, perhaps printed by ink-stained partisans in the cellar of a deserted tavern. For there are hints of revolution here: the lyrics' subtle dissatisfaction with mechanized, modernist life, the linear notes' demand for a re-examination of everyday objects, although the message is perhaps diffused by mere words, and rather taken up sonically by the band. A sort of manifesto of music, then, as what the album lacks in verbal "messages," it makes up for in music of a variety enough to broaden the mind of the listener. (Indeed! ...indeed.)
"'Neath The Pale Moon" might be signposted as the early stages of whatever next phase or era the band is now proclaiming to have begun. And yet, this exploratory variety does not mean the tracks don't make sense all pushed or pulled together into one experience, as it were. Rather, the Ganges River Delta Blues of "Muja Chi Larki Daydo" fits right alongside the more traditional porch-song "Sweet Virginia." If you consider yourself as someone with that of an adventurous and broad musical palette, this album is a journey of musical exploration well-worth taking.

THE POPO
THE POPO
STREET DATE: NOV 14 2006

The PoPo have already been credited with inventing the "post-hip hop" genre, and are indeed the style’s premier band. That's quite a feat considering "The PoPo" is the group's debut release. Based out of Philly, PA, USA, EARTH, their sound is a complex interpretation of popular music in the context of a corrosive, post-modern future. The 4 members of the group: Pops Ghostly, Fullscreen, Blue Bishi, and Hamstar, fuse together lo-fi punk, hip hop, and world music to create a dramatic sonic landscape suffused with myth, mysticism, and mystery.
Their self-titled debut can best be described as a "lo-fi epic"… Like a grungy fairytale conceived for a modern audience. Written and recorded by the group in their basement, (aka "The Zombie Cave") the music is deeply influenced by the band member's Middle Eastern roots, and the intense feelings of alienation they experienced growing up. The constant certainty of being surrounded by those who would treat them differently because of their appearance and background, led to the group's unique concoction of sounds that portray a child-like reality, tacitly controlled by a calculating and intractable evil.
At this moment in time, this may be the most relevant pop-music experience you could be a witness to. The PoPo serve up powerful and subversive commentary on social behavior in an era slithering with invertebrate evil of biblical proportions. Amidst all this, The PoPo stand alone as a completely independent and distinct entity in today’s "music scene." The PoPo will change your mind as to what you once thought "rock" or "rap" should be... But don’t be afraid, this is not an elitist campaign. The PoPo is as positive, colorful, and inclusive as you allow it to be. The narrow and simple minded may be left confused and unable to connect, but those seeking something fresh and pertinent are sure to be converted.

"The band manages to express musically in a short timespan what many bands of this genre don't in their entire career." - Lambgoat

"Daughters split the difference between Hella and the Locust into tiny little pieces before eating the pieces, barfing them up and then eating them again." - PaperThinWalls.com

"Led by monstrous drums, metal vocals, and a general vibe of unrelenting chaos, the quintet of Alexis Marshall (vocals), Brent Frattini (guitar), Jon Syverson (drums), Nicholas Andrew Sadler (guitar), and Samuel Moorehouse Walker (bass), unleash the fury on their latest album, Hell Songs." - Spin.com

"The quintet plays less grind and more plodding doom-core (read: an amphetamine-charged Arab on Radar). They still sound like Daughters, but even more chaotic." - Decibel Magazine

Providence, RI’s DAUGHTERS, are back w/ the follow-up to their “Canada Songs” album Robotic Empire, 2003) entitled “Hell Songs,” an entirely new approach to music in general. Just off a ten-day stint w/ epic instrumental-rock masters, Red Sparowes and giving new meaning to the word brutal, DAUGHTERS have expanded their minds and abilities, introducing unholy and outrageous new elements to their sound, leaving behind whatever could be considered typical within their genre, and fitting in perfectly to the monstrous Hydra Head roster. At times sounding like label-mates Oxbow or cult-legends Arab-on-Radar (on steroids), “Hell Songs” hits like a Mac Truck, pummeling its listener in a way that is, to-date, unmatched.

"What the fuck you guys? The vocals: What happened to them?”

- A fan posting on Daughters’ MySpace page

After staking out a reasonably comfortable bus-stop bench near the same wretched intersection where Lightning Bolt, the Locust, Oxbow and the Dillinger Escape Plan work their filthy corners, Providence, Rhode Island’s Daughters slowly unzipped and whipped out 2003’s Canada Songs (Robotic Empire). The art-school kids shit themselves; Some Girls, Melt Banana and Doomriders went on tour with them, and the dudes over at Three One G asked them to cover a Birthday Party song (”Marry Me (Lie! Lie!)”) for a tribute compilation (Release the Bats). Last but not least, the pimps at Hydra Head came calling for sloppy seconds. They brought a bottle of Cristal, a pile of limited-edition colored vinyl and some Astroglide; pants were charmed down to at least knee-level, and nine months later, a misshapen fetus called Hell Songs was delivered by Andrew Schneider (Scissorfight, Blue Man Group, Cave In, Keelhaul).

Within seconds, it began sucking greedily at the teat of mass dissemination. It was an ugly little bastard, with an encephalitic head, and it looked suspiciously like the mailman. It shit its pants a lot, just like those goddamn art school kids, and it would not fucking shut up. So, like the socially responsible parents they are, Daughters sent it out into the world to become a twitchy, axe murderer/chronic masturbator type with a veritable laundry list of physical and mental deficiencies. Nobody hires fidgety miscreants like this anymore (not even Catholic schools), so Hell Songs returned to that wretched intersection, looking vaguely familiar to the locals, only sweatier and more viciously deranged.

Sometimes that bus stop becomes too much to withstand; sometimes he/she drinks too much and puts the lotion in the basket. Sometimes he/she forgets to take his/her medication. But that’s okay; there are some things modern medicine will never cure. He/she is looking at you right now, as a matter of fact, and he/she thinks youíre kind of cute.

"Ironically, their fast and sloppy early-80s-styled hardcore is a million times more musical and ferocious than 99% of professional myspace-era mosh bands, and their fans' postshow cuts and bruises remind us that this shit might have the potential to still be dangerous." - VICE

With a near perfect balance of really weird punk stuff and totally punk weird stuff, Hidden World, to borrow a phrase from hip-hop, is going to send some motherfuckers back to the lab." - DECIBEL

"I truly believe these guys are the second coming of hardcore... they are Incredible." - MRR

"Toronto's Fucked Up get it so right. Their hardcore telepathically bridges the early 80's, reaches even further back for intelligence, and is blazing across this great land of ours, one shitty stereo and uncool kid at a time." - THRASHER

Listen to "Baiting the Public" off the forthcoming album, "Hidden World"

Fucked Up isn’t the prototypical hardcore band. The songs on "Hidden World" average five + minutes and have violins, acoustic guitars, samples, piano and other instrumentation.

As a band, Fucked Up exist as miscreants, operating outside the parameters of traditional society. No one in the band (comprised of Pink Eyes- vocals, Gulag aka Concentration Camp - guitar, Mr. Jo- drums, Mustard Gas- bass, 10,000 Marbles- guitar) owns a cell phone or can legally operate a vehicle. Relationships between band mates are often strained (Pink Eyes has even avoided a European tour because, "The prospect of sitting in a van with those dudes made me sick to my stomach").

3/5 of the band is plagued by bouts of mental illness ("Pink Eyes has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. Concentration Camp and I have been depressed for good parts of our adult lives," says guitarist 10,000 Marbles.) The band has been accused of championing fascism ("Mixing fascist imagery with a leftist anarchist punk band is like a bomb going off," according to the band.) The list continues; bewildering interviews in Vice Magazine, anarchist arrests in Canada, episodes of self-mutilation via razor blade and a slew of hard to find singles are but a few of the enigmatic characteristics that have embodied Fucked Up for the past five years.

Fucked Up came from nothing out of the Toronto, Canada punk scene, on their own accordance. Influences, both lyrical and musical, were mostly culled from within (though the band does cite Pink Floyd as a point of reference to their "more drawn out shit"), and the band slowly rose from obscurity without the obligatory tour and play with bigger band mentality of the modern punk scene. The band shuns full- length releases in favor of two-song singles, utilizes biological concepts to enact social change within their music, and has even been accused of mind control by some of their detractors. Illegible liner notes, being attacked onstage during live performances, self- releasing records with 17 minute long title tracks; all part of the deal for the convoluted world of Fucked Up.

What's worse? "The band exists within a culture of confusion," says manager/producer David Eliade, who additionally claims to have "Never attended a Fucked Up live show." True intentions and motivation are concealed under Internet hearsay, the band's inability to communicate with the public and obscure, hard to find releases. Fucked Up exist as a band, that much is known. But how, what and most importantly why continues to be a mystery. And if that's not fucked up enough, it gets even worse. People love Fucked Up, and their loyal fans include The Arcade Fire (AF violinist Owen Pallet plays on several tracks off of Hidden World), Jarvis Cocker of Pulp, Bloc Party and Vice Magazine (whom recently released a UK single for Fucked Up). In addition, throngs of eager listeners have tattooed their bodies with the Fucked Up logo, and many see no problem with paying outrageous amounts of money on eBay for out-of- print Fucked Up singles.

Somewhere amid the disparaging alienation, blatant offensiveness, and inter-band disillusionment, Fucked Up transformed into a highly sought after, enigmatic and essentially unconventional institution. In March of 2006, the band agreed to release their first full length album, Hidden World, on Jade Tree. Hidden World is cloaked in shades of unconventional aesthetics, symbolic overtones and an "Are you with us or against us?" burst of urgency. The album marks a turning point for the band, transcending the boundaries of punk with melody, aggression, expansive structures and enigmatic diatribes on what lies underneath the immediate, visualized world. Lyrically, Fucked Up continue to combine confrontational ideologies with deliberately skewed subject matter, producing a brutal yet alternative analysis on thought provocative punk.

Considering what we already know about Fucked Up, it's a feat that the tracks contained on Hidden World even made it out of the studio. Misunderstood revolutions are created and destroyed each day of our lives. With Fucked Up playing the role of bridge builder, demolitionist and subsequent analyst, there's no telling where this revolution may take us.....

Some more facts about Fucked Up:

Members:

10,000 Marbles - Lead Guitar. Previously of Ruination, Mike Haliechuk lives outside Toronto where he raises chickens.

Father Damian aka Pink Eyes
- Vocals. Abraham works as a producer in the film industry under his birth name, which he has so far managed to keep secret so that his participation in Fucked Up will not negatively affect his career.

Slumpy aka Laundry aka Mustard Gas - Bass Guitar. Occupation unknown.

Gulag (formerly Concentration Camp) - Rhythm Guitar. Zucker is a transient who was chosen as the original frontman for Fucked Up due to his confrontational manner. Zucker was replaced as frontman after missing several crucial shows while in jail for punching a Toronto police officer who had stolen a ham sandwich from him. In order to remain active in the band after the arrival of new singer Damian, Zucker learned guitar.

Guinea Beat aka Mr. Jo - Drums. Falco splits his time between Fucked Up and Career Suicide, as well as being a full time student. He has had to keep the existence of Fucked Up a secret from his family, with whom he lives, after his father declared the band's name "...made him want to vomit."

David Eliade - Visuals, spiritual and political guidance. Eliade is the "fifth Beatle" so to speak, and manages Fucked Up from behind the scenes. He has designed their logo, records, and influenced most of their lyrics. Eliade has coordinated most of their interviews, except for those conducted live on the road. He has begun taking a more visible role, acting as management for the band of late and working with them in the studio on the production of their forthcoming LP. He is the one who taught Haliechuk to garden and Camp to hop trains. He is the only person involved with the band who knows how to tune a guitar. Unfortunately he has never attended one of Fucked Up's live shows.

The band doesn't get along, they get into fights (literally), and the singer has not gone on tours before. He's the modern day Darby Crash, and usually cuts his face just about every show with razorblades. He's got social anxiety disorder and Schizophrenia. The brainchild of the band Mike one of the guitar players (lead guitar) writes just about everything, has Asperbergers syndrome and is clinically depressed. The punk Daniel Johnston if you will. He wants everyone to listen to this album in it's entirety but said he will never listen this album.

Together for five years, Fucked Up has gotten big in the underground on their own, rarely opening for big bands. Their records sell for lots of $ on eBay. Kids are fanatical and obsessed with them. They are an enigma, which could be why so many people are talking about them (and not just punk kids).

To date, Fucked Up has released 11 7"s. No Paseran (sold 1000, oop), Police (sold 3500), Baiting the Public (sold 1000, oop), Dance Of Death (sold 3000) all came out on Deranged. Litany (sold 1500, oop) came out on Test Pattern. Generation (sold 2100, oop) came out on Slasher. Split with Haymaker (sold 1500, oop) came out on deep six, two European tour 7"s (sold 1000 each). Not to mention three 12"s. LET LIKES BE CURED BY LIKES Live 12" (limited to 500 copies, oop) came out on Schizophrenic Records. LOOKING FOR GOLD 12" (limited to 500 copies, oop) was self-released. Generation 12" (sold 1500) came out on Slasher Records, one cd compilation of 7" songs (sold 5000) on Deranged Records
, and most recently, the Triumph of Life 7" just released on Jade Tree.

The band has toured Europe once and hit the UK in May, also 2 east coast tours and 2 west coast tours (mostly as the headlining band but did some dates w/ The Gossip).

Influences: The Wipers, Ramones, Pink Floyd, Negative Approach, The Who “but at the base we are most influenced by ourselves.”

They don't have a website or Myspace page. Myspace page is a fake one done by a fan.

AD ASTRA PER ASPERA Announce US Tour * Dates w/ Be Your Own Pet, Blue Cheer, and more!

Breaking News!

Lawrence Kansas' eclectic freak-rock outfit, Ad Astra Per Aspera have announced US Tourdates in support of their upcoming debut full-length entitled Catapult Calypso, out October 3rd on Sonic Unyon!

*** Click HERE to listen to all of "Catapult Calypso" ***

"Astronomical musical joy" - Aversion.com

"Feel the overwhelming power of a band who could and should be the next big thing." - Emotionalpunk.com

"Beautiful... epic... perfect" - Stylusmagazine.com

Welcome to the dark and truly fucked world of Lawrence, Kansas’ Ad Astra Per Aspera. YEAH!

Taking cues from bands like Blood Brothers, Man Man, Nation of Ulysses and other avant-dark, well constructed chaotic-punk-rock, Ad Astra showcases their talent as the current leader of the post-rock movement.

The band, who has been making waves in the underground through word of mouth from the kids (since 2002), is ready to bring its sound to the masses w/ their debut release w/ Canada’s Sonic Unyon Records (A Northern Chorus, Aereogramme, Raising the Fawn), and was recently nominated as best punk band from Kansas City’s local Pitch Weekly Newspaper.

With “Catapult Calypso,” (set for release on October 3rd) AAPA add a mix of Latin flavor to it’s brand of punk madness, at times almost sounding like a hopped up Manu Chao. At other times, Middle Eastern guitar twangs fill their songs, brining to mind an opium induced Bollywood freak-out. With “Everybody Lets Me Down” the band sound eerily reminiscent of a younger Ryan Adams (country rhythms and string sections add an element of both humor and beauty). No matter the elements, Ad Astra’s sound is full, hypnotic, mesmerizing, and truly one of a kind.

SOME ACTION Announces Record Release Shows * Listening Parties * Exclusive downloads from Downloadpunk.com!

Breaking News:

NYC punk-rock powerhouse SOME ACTION Announce The Release of Their Debut Full-Length “The Band That Sucked The Life Out Of Rock N’ Roll and Killed Itself in the Process,” out October 3rd on Gigantic Music!

*Come out and help us celebrate Some Action's first official full length with not one but TWO release parties. And if you can't wait until October 3rd to hear the record, our friends at DownloadPunk.com [http://www.dlpunk.com] have been nice enough to exclusively post the entire record two weeks early so you can download it now!

"Some Action has got more down and dirty rock n' roll action then they know what to do with." - Outburn Magazine

"This is what a real rock n' roll band should sound like" - Maximun RockNRoll

Never have truer words been spoken. Some Action is the New York punk revival troupe who sound as if they’ve ordered the largest shot of Fuck You, no chaser, and pounded the hell out of it.

Reminiscent of early and legendary punk outfits (see The Queers, The Buzzcocks, Gun Club), “The Band That Sucked The Life Out Of Rock N’ Roll and Killed Itself in the Process,” is Some Action’s debut full-length, and already the band has been receiving massive fan fare by both press and fellow bands alike. Having played alongside punk legends 999 and John Spencer Blues Explosion, Some Action has also made fans out of psycho-punx Turbonegro and press outlets around the world… and rightly so.

With punk-rock anthem sing-alongs like STAB, love song ballads like What’s It Gonna Take, and turn-the-volume-to-11-and-blow-you-through-the-wall live shows, the intensity of Some Action is unmatched by just about any New York (or otherwise) bands claiming to bring the noise.

The band recalls an attitude that has been so greatly missing in today’s punk-rock scene, care-free and balls out, Some Action is here to remind us all just what rock n’ roll should be about. The Band That Sucked The Life Out Of Rock N’ Roll and Killed Itself in the Process should undoubtedly make fans out of the Little Steven’s Underground Garage fanbase and newcomers alike.

Band Bio:
Broken bottles, broken instruments, broken bones, broken hearts – the only thing Some Action might ever fix is rock and roll. They’re outlaws in a city where dancing and smoking are illegal, outcasts in a genre where style shines over substance and outnumbered by faux fashion bands full of retro rockers. And yet, here they are: the kids have spoken, the beer has been spilled, many of us have been waiting for this but few are prepared.

The tale of Some Action’s formation is byzantine and boozy, but all members escaped their own version of suburban hell to make big, rotten noise in the Big Rotten Apple. Guitarist Ethan Campbell knows what it means to ‘live free or die’ in New Hampshire while it was more of a ‘skate or die’ situation for bassist John Gatland in Long Island. Singer Ian Magee came to town via the streets of Baltimore while drummer Zac Shaw headed downstate from the rock star retirement home of Woodstock.

Hook-heavy punk rock is delivered at top volume and velocity without a hint of jaded cynicism or plastic posing. These are the two-minute blasts of sugar and sandpaper that caused Turbonegro to remark, “you’re the New York version of us!” With explosive and unpredictable live shows, Some Action quickly built a buzz that rivals most inhalant benders. Besides numerous shows with their good friends in The Star Spangles, the band has played alongside 999, Detroit Cobras, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Little Killers and The Witnesses, to name a few.

In the summer of 2003 - one year after forming - Some Action was tapped by Gigantic Music to release a debut EP. Now four years into their existence, they are prepared to drop their first official full length: The Band That Sucked The Life Out Of Rock ‘n Roll And Killed Itself In The Process. Think Iggy, New Bomb Turks, the Reigning Sound, the Queers; think of raw, aggressive, lo-fi garage rock with melodies to spare. Some Action harken the great days of Crypt records while simultaneously giving us a guilty pleasure pop aesthetic. In fact, listeners report having more fun listening to the record than having sex, which either means that New York's more dead than we thought, or that Some Action are actually living up to their name.

KILL THE VULTURES TO PLAY FIRST-AVENUE IN MINNEAPOLIS WITH ATMOSPHERE!

Breaking news!
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 29th & SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30th
@ FIRST AVENUE, MINNEAPOLIS
Radio K presents...ATMOSPHERE
with special guests MAC LETHAL, PSALM ONE, KILL THE VULTURES and DJ RARE GROOVE & more...

KILL THE VULTURES
"THE CARELESS FLAME"
[LOCUST MUSIC]
STREET DATE: October 24th, 2006

"The Careless Flame" is the second album by critically acclaimed Minneapolis rust belt hip hop outfit, Kill The Vultures.
MC Crescent Moon (Alexei Casselle) lays out an urgent asphalt confessional of Big Apple torment, ghostly hallucinations & white lightening relief over Anatomy's (Stephen Lewis) rickety chain gang rhythms, obscured arabesque guitars & wailing noir saxophone skronk.
Flame is a decibel pushing, in the red collection of scorched earth avant hip hop summoning the spirit of blues in the raw.
So throw yourself in the pit. This is music to burn up to: elemental, brutal, tormented, essential & it will get you moving.

Praise for KILL THE VULTURES:

"Dark, quality production, good rhyme flows. If you get high or are the serious mad-at-the-world type, you'll love this." -Prince Paul, XLR8R magazine

"Kill the Vultures is a band hell bent on using beats and rhymes to sound like bent hell, flipping abrasive and dissonant punk and bop samples instead of the typical boom bap." -Dave Hlubeck, Fader

"It's the best underground hip-hop I've heard this year" -Salon.com

TOTIMOSHI On Tour Now! * Dates w/ Mastodon, Blue Cheer and more!

Breaking News!

San Francisco sludge-grunge-metal heroes, TOTIMOSHI, are kicking off a massive Nationwide US tour starting Tomorrow night in LA (including dates w/ Mastodon, Blue Cheer, and other special guests) in support of their upcoming full-length "Ladron" set for release on October 24th on Crucial Blast!

“Perhaps the most slept-on metal band in Cali right now...music to storm the castle by.” – Decibel Magazine

“The progressive noise trio are one of the most unique bands (though relatively unknown to the mainstream) on the scene today and deserve the praise this new disc is getting across the board.” – Unrestrained! Magazine

“Think heavy rock with an experimental edge, some of which approaches the style of Clutch mixed with the Meat Puppets and some of the early Sub Pop bands”. – Live4metal.com

“Oakland power trio Totimoshi's grungy punk metal plunges the listener into the sludgy depths of the human condition. Bringing to mind such bands as the Melvins and Black Sabbath, the heavy, driving songs express frustration, anger, and despair.” – East Bay Express

Oakland, CA’s sludge-grunge-alt-hell-rock trio TOTIMOSHI are back w/ the follow-up to 2003’s “Monoli” and 2005’s re-issue of Mysterioso? to bring we mortals one of the heaviest and doom-ridden masterpieces the world of heavy rock has seen in way too long (no wonder bands like Helmet, Mastodon, Fu-Manchu, Kylesa, High on Fire, and the Melvins have tapped the band to tour and perform alongside on more than one occasion).

Bringing to mind some of history’s heaviest hitters (see Blue Cheer, Tool, Nirvana, Oxbow, Helmet), “Ladron’s” sludge-heavy guitar riffs, hugely-powerful bass-lines, and pummeling drums take their listener on a pseudo-psychedelic journey through space and time, and leave them wallowing in the depths of hell.

A Brief History:

Totimoshi was formed by singer/guitarist Tony Aguilar and bassist Meg Castellanos in Nov. 97'. After a slew of drummers-some lasting longer than others, Luke Herbst joined the band in Feb. 05'. Totimoshi have recorded with acclaimed producers Billy Anderson, Alex Newport, and most recently Page Hamilton who worked on the upcoming "Ladrón". Past releases have included 1999's self titled, Mysterioso? (Crucial Blast 2002, enhanced re-issue 2005) and Monolí (This Dark Reign 2003).

Touring constantly across the US, they've gained a strong loyal following due to their innovative approach to heavy music. Highlights have included being handpicked by the Melvins and Helmet to open for their respective tours, and headlining the Emissions and Stoner Hands of Doom Fests. HELLA * XASTHUR Release New Albums Today!

Breaking News!

Two of extreme music's heaviest hitters, HELLA and XASTHUR, release new albums TODAY, September 12th, 2006!

HELLA "Acoustics" (5RC)

Sacramento's spazz-jazz-freak-rock duo HELLA have announced they will be releasing their "Acoustics" EP TODAY on 5RC!

"Hella are capable of riffological complexity of a most athletic cast... a masterpiece of frantic blargh." - Spin Magazine

"Hella back up their ambition with impressive amounts of ingenuity and elbow grease" - Pitchfork

"A nerve-shattering whirlwind of atonal chaos." - Alternative Press Magazine

Drummer Zach Hill and guitarist Spencer Seim have been spending the better part of the past year recording and touring in support of the last few Hella releases (a recent EP and DVD on Kill Rock Stars / 5RC, as well as their critically acclaimed "Church Gone Wild, Chirpin Hard" double disc, not to mention national US tourdates w/ Dillinger Escape Plan, The Mars Volta, System of A Down, and Les Claypool), and have also been focusing on their other projects (Hill finding his place behind the drum kit for all-star bands Team Sleep, Goon Moon, and The Ladies, and Seim touring relentlessly with The Advantage). Needless to say, the two have been taking their skills to the masses as of late.

Now, as if asking themselves what they could do next, Hella plans to release their "Acoustics" EP, a collection of previously released songs mostly from "The Devil Isn't Red" and "Hold Your Horse Is" with a new, stripped down, and beautiful take on their already magical songs.

Tracklisting for "Acoustics"

1) 1-800-Ghost Dance
2) Women of the 90's
3) Cafeteria Bananas
4) Biblical Violence
5) Welcome to the Jungle Baby,Your Gunna Live!
6) The Devil Isn't Red

Hella are currently preparing their upcoming full-length out in 2007 on Ipecac Records.

XASTHUR "Subliminal Genocide" (Hydra Head)

“One of America's most prolific and unapproachable underground metal musicians” - Billboard

"...idiosyncratic, The Cure-unto-Burzum melted strings/synth psychedelia..." - Metal Maniacs

As one of the most innovative black metal practitioners in the isolationist sub-underground, Xasthur has crafted some of the most mesmerizing and significant music of the last decade, regardless of genre.

Subliminal Genocide wallows in its creator’s well nourished acrimony and terminal disgust, fomenting a hellish vortex of shrill riffery, cavernous howls and psychedelic stormblasts that bears down on the psyche with primordial distress.

With tremendous respect and admiration, Hydra Head Industries is proud to release the work of one of the underground black metal scene’s most creative minds: Xasthur. For this release, we are working in association with Battle Kommand Records. The Illinois-based label has released an impressive stable of quality underground releases, including a Xasthur/Leviathan split.

Though it began in 1995 and featured other members until 1999, Xasthur’s entire recorded cannon (5 full lengths, 5 split albums, including an appearance on Sunn O)))'s "Black One") is solely the work of one tremendously prolific artist: Malefic. His sonic palette is HUGE.

The U.S. black metal scene is regarded by those in-the-know as tremendously progressive. Xasthur (along with Leviathan, Krieg, and Nachtmystium) is an American artist whose forays into lo-fi atmospherics, unique instrument and vocal textures, as well as exploratory song structures are heralded.

Subliminal Genocide adheres to the sonic and lyrics principles of malevolence contained in Xasthur’s past work, but further develops the use space and atmosphere. Though the significance and appeal of underground black metal remains largely experienced only by the few who dwell in dark corners, we hope this tremendous Xasthur record reaches the ears of all those who are even slightly fond of extreme art.

Tracklist:
1) Disharmonic Convergence
2) Prison of Mirrors
3) Beauty is Only Razor Deep
4) Trauma Will Always Linger
5) Pyramid of Skulls
6) Arcane and Misanthropic Projection
7) Victim of Your Dreams
8) Through a Trance of Dispondency
9) Loss and Inner Distortion
10) Subliminal Genocide
11) Malice Hidden in Surrealism

LEWIS AND CLARKE Tour The East Coast w/ Black Swans!
Pennsylvania's soon-to-be folk hero LEWIS & CLARKE have just announced the release of a vinyl-only live 12" to coincide w/ upcoming East Coast Tour Dates w/ The Black Swans!

"A gifted newcomer" -MAGNET

"A whisper of an album, lovely without being precious, moody without being beleaguering." - No Depression

Following the acclaimed release of Bare Bones and Branches, Lou Rogai emerges from the mountains of Pennsylvania with a new delivery: a 12" vinyl-only limited edition release of the now infamous and much sought-after radio performance, Live on WPRB (Listen HERE). This offering bridges the gap between 2005's Bare Bones and Branches and the upcoming 2007 release of Blasts of Holy Birth.

Originally broadcast in February 2006 on Jon Solomon's Keeping Score At Home, this live recording captures the beauty and magic of a transitional metamorphosis. The loose, relaxed versions of past songs blend with fresh workings of new material, setting the ambience (including chimes, Indian drones, Rogai's baby son, all part of the performance), and making for a unique and satisfying listening experience. Players include Rogai, Dave Ulrich, Alejandro Bjorg (Man Man) and The Expeditionary Grace Singers. "The vinyl is simply about preservation of a special moment in time, keeping it sacred." Now we can enjoy the complete tactile experience on vinyl, with artwork drawn by J. Patrick Walsh III, handscreened by the musicians, and delivered on Rogai's own La Société Expéditionnaire.

Meanwhile, Blasts of Holy Birth is complete and ready for release in February 2007 by La Société Expéditionnaire and various licensors abroad. An album of beauty; linear and serpentine, it is a testament to a cyclical journey through eastern meditations, inherent folk stylings, and a tribute to all birth, metaphor and device. Recorded by Dan McKinney (of The Original Sins) and featuring the contributions of Eve Miller (Rachel's) and Alejandro Bjorg (Man Man), Blasts of Holy Birth resonates authenticity, beauty, and otherworldly experience, bringing forth a back-to-the-earth sound with a most elegant touch.

In between albums, Rogai is touring solo, referring to Lewis & Clarke as a project that is " a ship crafted for many, but navigable by one."

WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY Announce Dates on The Gold Tour w/ The Bouncing Souls and European Tour!

Breaking News!

Gotham City's punk-rock-cabaret-anarchist-carnival-troupe, better known as the WORLD/INFERNO FRIENDSHIP SOCIETY, have announced worldwide tour-dates, including US dates on The Gold Tour w/ The Bouncing Souls, in support of their latest full-length "Red-Eyed Soul" out now on Chunksaah!

"Showtune-esque vocals, plenty of horns, and hooks that are impossible *not* to sing along to." - Alternative Press

"A raucous, nine-person cabaret act that introduced a welcome touch of anarchy to the cozy Caucus Patio" - Entertainment Weekly

Punk rock? Swing?
